yes that's how it works .... an insurance adjuster will take pictures and assess the damage ... he'll place a value on that damage, and if the body shop of your choice goes over that, then you will haev to pay the difference. If they keep it under that value, then you're covered....

the only thing you might want to think about is this... if you use the company that State Farm wants you to use, often a life-time warranty is applied to the work. If the paint spiders or flakes off in the future, they will fix it for free.... This isn't always the case, but it is the case with Traveler's... I was reluctant, but went with what they wanted... i had the car back to the shop 4 times within 2 weeks with things i wanted fixed or re-fixed... adn they did it all free of charge...
