Whats involved with trading cars with someone?

Just wondering if anyone here has ever made a straight up trade with someone's vehicle??

This would be out of state as well. N.C actually. We were going to meet up halfway somewhere but we didn't know if we had to find a notary..

i dont know if this will help you out but the NC dot is way easier to deal with than ours... I bought a truck there once and alls we had to do was go to the dmv (in NC)and they signed it right over to me and i had to take it to pa to get it in my name and to get it flipped to a Pa title...

Well since you buy a car every other day I'll take your word for it.

You say bill of sale but there really isn't any selling going on, what do you tell the notary?

just wright it in the bill of sale that "you" are trading "whoever" for make/model....tell the notary that it was a straight up trade so you wont have to pay sales tax

make sure you have a copy of their drivers licence, and if you can go to a used car dealer if you know one, they have this little form that the other person can sign, and it will basically sign all the rights to the vehicle over to you, i have had to do this on cars i bought out of state because there wasnt a notary handy and we both had to get moving toward home or somehting like that... My dad has owned a few car lots and he used to have those forms to use.. If all else fails just call a notary like Joe Fidas, they seem to have all the answers...

It's my Notch I was trading. Was looking into a Gtp. Always loved those cars, and the notch just sits in the garage.

Yeah Tim, after traveling for hours and looking each others rides over the last thing you want to have to do is piss around trying to find a notary. Just want to get your new car home, Lol. Thanks for the info..

I find it hard to believe that you won't need to pay some sort of sales tax, even though its a straight up trade.....

For your sake, i really hope you don't have to, but you know how governments are... they will always find a way, and always have some sort of bylaw that will require you to pay tax on the fair market value or something stupid like that....
