little vague. but what are your plans with the welder?

i have ESAB migmaster 250 but requires a 50 amp cicuit to run it. have had it 5 years and works great.

esab, hobart, lincoln, they are al good welders, get one that has the capability to run gas, everyone thinks in the beginning that flux core will work fine until they start to weld with it and burn the heck out of themselves.... I use a 75/25 co2/argon mix for my gas and i typically use .030 copper core wire, that will work about 99% of the stuff your welding.. I use to have a hobart 165 mig and it worked great but didnt have the duty cycle to start using it all day like i need sometimes thats why i got the big welder i have now..

I don't know the exact model numbers, but we have both the Lincoln MIG and TIG at work and they have worked out great, I've welded up countless amounts of 1/4" steel with the MIG and it does great. I have used the TIG a few times and it is very nice, our full time welder loves it. My dad has been using a Lincoln (huge industrial style one) MIG for 15+ years and has had zero problems with it.

    Troy,

get a 220v unit of whichever brand. I use a Hobart 175. I bought it as a blem for $400 about 3 years ago. The 185/187 or the 210 is sweet. They all weld as well as a novice can. Buy the biggest machine that's in your budget.

+1. You are just planning to do light gauge stuff right now, but you never know what you may want to get into in the future. It's really frustrating when your welder can't keep up.

if a novice i don't thing the TIG is for everyone. it is difficult enough to learn MIG and accomplishes pretty much everything you want. i have had my TIG for years and can't live without it. but for an average hobbyist the MIg is fine.
and def get a gas capatible one. flux core sucks IMO

I use a Lincoln Mig with flux core wire, 110v job. Does nice work but I would get one that uses gas next time. Cleaning up the mess flux makes sucks. Don't think mine can be converted unfortunately.
