This was on another site and is a good read. I have done work in the Bayer Plant in WV that makes this chemical mentioned in article. It is very very dangerous.

he's into that, that spiritual stuff. <><
Damn! That's crazy! I usually try and read the warnings on chemicals when I start using them for the first time, but I will be more careful from now on. I weld a few times a week, which is definitely enough for something like this to be possible
oh my... i am gonn acheck the brake cleaner we use right now...

We use that same brake cleaner at work. I printed the article for my techs to read. Thanks for posting!!

wow thanks for the link as i have used brake clean and other chemicals to clean before welding.
Good post, but I've never used anything other than soap and water prior to welding. Normally just shine it up with a wire wheel.
I know it's gonna make me pay more attention to warnings on things. Most that stuff you know is not healthy but how many would know something might give off a gas that could drop you dead before you know what hit you.

Definitely a great post. I don't weld, but I never would have thought to look at the warnings on a can of brake cleaner.
I posted the link on Bracket Talk also, and some guys threw out some tips on what they use, and one shared his own bad experience. Scary stuff.
