I used a Cam Reasearch Corp solid flat in a 466 and had great results it was on ported DOV-E heads with port plates and flat tops (cheap TRW's) and made 394 at the wheels through a C6/NP-205/Dana 80. I would guess it was 550-575 crank HP or so and it was a pump gas build. With the heavy truck trans/transfer case/rear end, your expecting about a 30-35% loss.
We were very happy with how the power came on early and yet would allow us to run 6500-7000 RPM down the track.
That had Manley steel H-beams and a OEM 460 crank in a 2 bolt block. It never came apart, it was eventually pulled and put in the garage where it has been resting for maybe 7-8 years now. Soon it will be placed under the hood of a 86 T-Bird or a 84 Camaro. The camaro with a 460 would really be kind of neat.

Now that sounds like an excellent street build.
Low buck and good power....
Edit: Although with flat tops and small chamber heads that sounds like something that could've needed race fuel. Did you run pump on it? With a true flat top (except for valve relief) @ 0 deck, .040 gasket and 73cc heads, that's above pump gas compression ratio.

It was intended for Sunoco Ultra with a bottle of 104+. That is how it ran most of the time because the rules we were sled pulling with said no race fuels allowed, and you could not hide the majical scent of VP/Cam2/Turbo-Blue!
I did not push the timing out as far with the pump gas, I ran it locked at 36 degrees. On VP C-14 I would set the timing out at 38 degrees. It actually made 8 more HP at 38 degrees on the chassis dyno.... but on the pump gas it did not like it.
It was a true 0 deck flat top with DOVE heads, the pistons were cut for the cam, if my memory serves me correct it was a 0.620" cam.
The combustion chamber was smoothed and polished. No sharp edges were left. Used Childs and Albert gapless rings. I had Manley stainless valves back then, nothing exotic.
It also had a 4150 750 HP-Pro series that I had holley custom shop add a 850 throttle body base plate to and custom machine the 750 lower main body to connect the ports. Yea, I cheated a bit. I still have that carb I believe. It was a monster.
We ran that on the dyno with a port matched Wiend Stelth SCJ intake. Later (and not dyno'ed) I changed to a Victor with a Dominator. It REALLY liked the intake and carb swap. Massive change in the way it pulled down the track.

Ya..I ran the numbers and you were around 11.85:1 on a flat tappet cammed iron-headed deal which is certainly too high unless there's no timing in it.
Still sounds like a nice setup to "stay within the rules.". :)

Did you ever see Scott Johnstons little wedge head V-Cut thing he does? Scott's site is reincarnation automotive or something real similar. He claimed that allowed him increase CR on lower octane fuels. I never tried that, but the concept of a more violent quench makes sense.

Check with Mark Petros at Greensburg Machine and Driveline for your gears and such. He usually beats Randy's and all the big sites, and he really knows his chit. He can ship to you also, or install for you if desired.

I got a nice internal balance 429 crank and 429 rods if you're interested. (cheap!)
You have a cam picked out yet? I got a buddy selling an Edelbrock performer rpm with matching lifters he'll sell real cheap as well. It's a hydraulic flat tappet (no maintenance). Would be a nice street/strip cam for something in the 429-472" range.
Sorry though....no 3.73's. Which would be a good gear for your combo if running a 26" tire.

Strip series 1 is what me and mike(wolfpack) are going with. it may be alil more that what you will need for the goal that you have. But that #2 is a great setup also
