3.73 vs 4.10

OK I am not sure what future mods I am going to do.... as in not sure if I will go heads and cam or S/C down the road. With that being said what are the drawbacks of going with 4.10's. How much MPG do you lose and how are 4.10 at highway speeds? The car is a 5 speed if that makes a diff.

Let me finish your debate by saying your thread should have been titled "4.10 or 4.30"

everybody on this site that owns a SOHC 2V will tell you to go 4.10 no matter what mods... current or future.

MPG will depend on your right foot and gear selection. There are probably guys on here getting 17mpg with 3.27s and guys getting 22mpg with 4.30s.

I feel that the 99+ cars wiegh enough to justify 4.10 gears with a supercharged application.. The 4.10s are my choice!

there could be some validity to this. you'll burn through the gears like crazy with that much power and 4.10s. 1st gear will basically be useless. With 4.10s, you'll redline at about 25mph (1st) 50mph (2nd) 75mph (3rd) and 100-110mph (4th).

well, ppl will tell you this when you go turbo because of several reasons... 1 is what troll mentioned above.... the other is that the taller gears will help spool the turbo quicker and will allow you to stay in the powerband longer....

this really isn't the case with blown applications though......

unless you're planning on going turbo in the future, you better just listen to these guys and get soemthing in the 4.xx range...

They only time we install numerically less then a 4.10 in a modular car is when the customer makes us!!!
