Terminator tires, best compromise for street.

Wondering what you all felt was a good tire to choose for street driving, not racing, just for going to cruises and getting some ice cream.

I would not want a junk set of tires that were like driving on ice.

I am interested in a tire with a reasonable price that has an decent wear charactoristic and enough traction to allow mild to low-medium aggressive driving.

I will have another set of wheels with track tires.

Is there much appreciation for NITTO NEOGEN and NT555 tires?

I have had nitto 555's (315-35-17) on my car for 3 years now, they handle good and give a decent amount of traction. My best 60' with them is 1.79

This might help you but I was looking for a grippy tire to replace my BFG KDs.

This talk of 1,000 mile tires is a bit.... well.... discouraging! Even my lifted Excursion would get 8K-10K out of a set of Super Swampers!

Are you all doing frequent hard launches and spinning the tires away, or are you actually wearing them from casual driving?

Maybe I should have read your post in full because the tires in my link are drag radials to hook up when going WOT or racing. Sorry for the confussion!

My BFG KDs work great for driving. Its just when I go WOT they have NO chance. If you want more traction your milage will suffer. The highest wear drag radial are the NITTOS and BFGs but that doesn't sound like what you want.

Na, I'm looking for the set of decent looking/wearing/performing street tires.

I had a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires on a 2006 MazdaSpeed6 and got about 6K miles out of them. They hooked like a champ in the corners, but I knew those tires gave up substantial service life to afford you the "ON RAILS" feel during the corners. I actually went to the NITTO NeoGEN on that Speed6 and the tire wear appeared to be drastically better (sold car at 12K miles) but the cornering became somewhat dangerous when compared to the potenza tires.

With the Termi, I kind of think that the 500HP on a set of NeoGEN tires may be similar to ice skating.

The NITTO street series 555 series seems to have a bit of a following, so that may be one to try out.

I ran the 555's on my 04 that made the same hp as yours.

They were a nice tire.....gripped well, nice ride, very low road noise, wore well, but don't expect them to hold a second gear roll-on.

For the kind of driving you're talking about, I think it's a good choice.

Look into the Avon Tech M500's.... I never used them on my car, but Ray (Stangman701) has always told me how happy he was with those tires on his Termi - i believe he's had several sets... They're not going to be like a set of Mickey Thompson drag radials (like i had on mine), but they'll apparently grip quite well, last much longer, and probably corner better as well....

Sadly these aren't around anymore that I can find. They were a very good street tire though. Would usually hold a second gear roll on a 50+ degree day and I was able to eek a 1.85 60' time out of them. They were the only street tire(non-drag radial) that I felt was better than any other one.
