if your trying to build a race/ extreme street car, I second the 351, a 393 or 408 would be sick with a power adder

Wouldn't have to be extreme or race, Pump gas motor would still smoke a 302 based motor of the same build. You gain more torque and the prices are about the same, only real price difference is when you go header shopping. Even then you could get mac's fairly cheap.

not saying it has to be a race motor, just saying it would be easier to build a high horsepower motor with a 351, since their block is built to take more from the factory, and the larger cubes

In my shallow and limited life experiance I have discovered some fundamental laws of truth:

There is no such thing as too many cubic inches.
Too much power is still not quite enough.
You can never wear that beautifull thing out, no mater how often or hard you hit it!

With each of these things, getting more is just that much sweeter!

I'll give you these two but might debate the first one a little since I like doing more with less ;)

Yea i know its easier with a 408 or 351 base block, but where is the fun in easy? i want to do it with less CI, so it makes me work at it and be one of "those" guys with a smaller ci motor keeping up with the big ci guys..

Its def going to be a 347. The goal for the car is 10.0 consistant to run true street in the nmra and nmca next year

Its not where is the fun it is easy on components of the motor as well of reliable and powerful. It is still a smallblock and not a heavyweight bigblock. You will have to spend thosands more to get a block to withstand the abuse of a few hundred dollar block. Why not save the money by building the 393/408 and use the money elsewhere in the car.

I hear what you're saying Scott and if the induction/cam package is the same, the 8.2 can keep up with the 9.5 deck stuff just at higher rpm. On the street though, you'll enjoy the 9.5 deck stroker more though IMO.

    My words were
"You can never wear that beautifull thing out, no mater how often or hard you hit it!"

I was speaking of the most treasured possession any man can have. What drives 12 yr old boys dreams and wastes away at the wealth of even the richest and most powerfull men to ever walk the earth. It is the one "object" that all men will live or die for, and every man will bow down in front of. It is why we work and strive to better ourselves... and why we agree to be docile animals of society.... so that we may continue to access the one thing that the Lord hard wired into our hearts, minds and souls.

Now, if you have any doubt of that in which I speak of.... I can PM a picture that will clearly illustrate this to ya...LOL!
