    E6 Porting Pics

For the 2.3 guys, I wanted to throw up a few pics of an E6 I've been grinding on. It's eventually going to end up on my father-in-law's '83 TC, if I can ever find some time to start tinkering with it. So far I've roughed it out with the carbides and spent an hour or so today working it with a stone. It's not bad for my first attempt, but if anyone has any constructive criticism feel free to let me know before I go any further.

All I can say is make sure you have good eye protection on. The last time I did a set od heads, I was in the hospital with a sliver of metal stuck. They used a needle, like the kind they give you a shot with, to get it out.

    Nice work though.

Looks good Dave. One suggestion ... That entire wall on the #4 runner side can go (and should) The flow from that hole has to fight the other three coming in from the log so it needs all the help it can get. Big flow improvement in that area.

Look good anyway. Anything is better that as they are cast, but that's an area to really work.

Rob, I have a full face shield that I picked up at Harbor Freight. I read too many stories like yours to take a chance.

Bob, do you mean in this area? Specifically, where the three individual arrows are pointing.

Yes. Give that #4 hole a straight shot at the turbine :D It doesent want to make that turn inot the log only to turn back to the collector.

Alright, I took Bob's advice and did a little extra work on #4. I also worked a couple other spots while I was at it. If you look closely you'll see some daylight poking through. Anybody know if there any local spots to buy some cartridge rolls?

Mike - If I can hit 13's once everything is bolted on I'd be thrilled. I see how many parts Bob and Frank break trying to go faster

You are getting there ;) I was showing Frank last night ... I can put a 3/8" breaker bar handle in my #4 and it comes out the outlet, maybe that gives you a better idea how far mine is. Seeing daylight is getting there :D

Hell, we even got Frank into the 13's with NO porting at all. Again, I'm willing to sacrifice your parts to get there

If the rain holds off, we will KNOW what a very well ported E6 is worth over a stocker some time soon ;)

Mike was showing me a big bag of rolls he got at Harbor Freight.

I just testing out your breaker bar theory but with a large 1/2 extension. It made it, so I'm probably pretty good (or at least better than the picture indicates).

I'll be waiting to see the results from tomorrow night.

Ed, good catch on the washer! It's probably 20-25 years old. The matching dryer is off to the right.:)

Mike, did you get those at the retail store or online? Is that your port work in the pictures? If so, you do good work. I'm also working on a set of E7's for my Mustang and I've discovered that working the guide boss is a PITA.

Bob, I have lots of tools but I haven't found one that fixes abnormality.

If I ever get comfortable with porting, I have a spare 2.3 head sitting on the shelf and unlike Mike's it will get bigger valves (although the port job probably won't be as pretty).
