Anyone here ride Outlaw 525 IRS?

After getting spanked handily by one yesterday in a drag race, I started doing some reading on them.....those things run good. People are claiming near 50hp with a lid, exhaust, re-jet..which is definately stout.

I like the ground clearance and ride quality of IRS design, but we get into some off-camber stuff and I'm worried it'll shift it's weight around too much feeling tippy.

Plus I guess the seating height is also up there. (although the review I read may have been written by someone that's used to mx 450's and not woods machines.)

Thanks Joe...I couldn't remember if you guys had the IRS or solid axle ones'.....

I know Bentley's has a couple leftover 08's as I saw them last week while I was grabbing a couple parts for my raptor. They're near 50% off!

I'm just not sure if i will like the IRS for what we do...except it would be PERFECT for hatfield.

I'll send you a pm...but this weekend is Hatfield for me...so it'll have to be next weekend at the earliest.

So who wins in a race in the dirt? The traction limited (comparitively speaking) crf450R or the outlaw? :)

Well i don't want to step on any toes, but i don't think its any contest really... We've never flat out drag-raced, but the 450R is not traction limited in any way... MX bikes do absolutely nothing short of dead hook... notice how MX riders have every single bit of weight they can get over the front end when coming out of the gate?? A 215lb guy like me only makes that rear wheel dig harder lol

I'm not sure where the 50hp number comes from above, but i would think that KTM motor makes more than that...
either way, a dead stock CRF450R makes about 55hp ... and it weighs less than 220lbs... I don't really think it's much of a competition :)
Oh boy, i can't wait to get my motor back together.. increased compression and a full exhaust, and this baby is gonna run! :D

Yep we have them and they are a lot of fun! The engine and IRS makes them special. You need to go riding out by the Airport when we go. You can try them out like Joe said.

They do not have a high ride height at all and certainly are not tippy. You would love them in rocky terrain.

BTW the price at Bentleys for $3999 is great. We paid $4750 OTD last year in Ohio for our 2008 models.

i have the predator 500 (which is same as 525 outlaw minus 25cc and irs) mine has solid axle and rides super nice, not tippy at all,has more power then really needed in most places. clearance is kinda low but dont really affect riding until the deep ruts and mud puddles come into play. i would recommend either 500 or 525 to anyone. they definatly are not for beginners though.

Stopped into Bentley's today over lunch. They have 4 units assembled and ready to go, and supposedly 20 more that need assembled.

The salesman told me they bought 80 units from Polaris this summer and so far have sold 60 of them. Pretty surprising IMO....even at 4k.

I haven't priced out pipes or skid plates but I understand they're pretty pricey compared to raptor stuff...the aftermarket support just isn't as strong.

That price makes the poor people who spent $7399 last year sick I am sure. I am glad we got a smokin deal too when we got ours.

They have a lot of parts available that most anyone would want. HMF, FMF, Muzzy, and some others make pipes and headers. Skids are available from 3 or 4 sources as well. They are not as common as Yammie or Honda stuff for sure. Reliability and power seems to be good on the engines(KTM). They have some quirkiness to deal with(as all brands do), but when you glide right over the rockiest, rutted trails that you can find and blast past most of your buddies on the top end it makes it all worth it.

From what I'm reading everyone loves the KTM's over the polaris engines, so no complaints there. I did read one guy that said his buddy had a problem with shearing sprocket bolts and aggressive sprocket wear. Another posted that his riding buddy had some funny susp noises after just a couple rides. Anything is possible though...could've just been some bolts that were never torqued properly.

How are yours and Joe's bikes holding up? Any problems?

Sprocket bolts were under recall for the early on models, mostly 06-07. They use locking tabs now so no prob. Suspension noise I have never read about or experienced and I frequent all the Polaris forums.

Joe and I have had a couple little problems along the way.

One thing to do immediately if you buy one is to make sure to lube the ball joints as they are not a quality part and come dry from the factory. Same thing for the outer tie rod ends. Joe had one come apart. I just ordered a heim joint type setup for the outer tie rods and I did rip a inner cv boot this weekend but that could have been torn on a tree or whatever so I do not think that can be considered a defect..?

Also, make sure that ALL electrical connections have plenty of dielectric grease. I had a phantom stalling issue because of a dirty connection. my buddy has an 07 irs, and barely changes the oil, and rides HARD... he never had a problem to date. The only real issue i had was a faulty temp sensor, it was a 40.00 part, and also the tie rod end,,,,,,,, but i nailed a few logs sticking out of the trails on that side several times. I wouldnt give this quad up for anything.
