Hours of labor to install a input shaft?

The tube that the throw out bearing slides on broke on my tranny so I'm going to have a 26 spline input shaft put in... My question is if I took the tranny and all the parts required for installation to a tranny shop how many hours should it take? This guy said around 4... Seems a little high to me. Thanks in advance.

Less than an hour. About 25 minutes with the right tools. I can have the front apart in about five minutes, assemble dry and check bearing, take back apart and seal up. So yeah, half an hour total.

You do any T-56's yet? Almost the same front as a T-45. Nothing to it. You dont take the whole trans apart. Just the 13 front bolts and it pops apart. The tricky part is getting it back together.

yesI have done a few, if you can do it in 25 minutes thats amazing... do you have the special tool to hang them from the bench or do you do it the suicide method?? Evan doing the suicide method should take at least an hour.

your are supposed to work on those trannys while they are hanging vertical in a special tranny hanger thing so nothing can move or possibly shift around, the suicide method is when you have it lying on the bench with the front off and the tranny guts kinda hanging in the wind.. I dont know about you guys but i at least attempt to do things the right way.
And isnt your tranny not shifting correctly Lou??

All that is needed is a milk crate cut out to set the tail of the trans into.

It would probably still be fine if I hadn't fumbled a few shifts over the years.

What a coincidence, I spent some time today looking at another broken TOB tube! This is a very common failure, we would charge you 1-1.5 hours labor to do both if you brought the tranny to us. Good luck either way

My retainer sleeve craped out at the beginning of the summer. I replaced the TOB and the retainer sleeve in 3 hours. and that was taking my good old time.

Also i would reccomend either a Mcloed or lethal performance sleeve. alot stronger then the stocl ones are

I'd rather give a vender here the work but my issue is where I live and how much I work... The place that's going to install the shaft is about 3 minutes from my house... He rebult a T5 for me a while ago, I think he likes to strech his time on things.

Maybe he is just busy, it happens! Honestly though, it really isn't a big deal, I'm actually kind of surprised he didn't have you wait since you were bringing the tranny to him???
