Want what you can have, not what you cant.
I got my R6 as my first bike and want the power of the R1 from time to time but come next spring i plan on getting either a 2010 GSXR1000 or a 2011 R1. Unless suzuki comes out with something new in the 1000 market (which i believe they're due for) then i might find myself on one of those
We'll have to do some riding and see how they R6 keeps up.

rain drops feel like bullets at 100mph. :o
left the house around 2pm and ran from the black clouds all day. got caught in it about 19 times. didn't care after my ass was completely soaked. these Michelins do handle pretty good in the rain.

Left the bike at home all day while I was at work in fear of the big "thunderstorm" and it never rained here
...and does anybody know how many cats are originally on the 04-06 r1s? I bought the bike with graves slip-ons and think they eliminated one of them? I can still see what looks to be a cat right in front of the swingarm. I dont know if this would eliminate it or not and whether I'd have to get the pcIII remapped after removing it?

there's only 1 cat on your R1........
regular aftermarket slip-on exhausts don't get rid of the cat......
its pretty easy to take the slip-ons off and punch the cat out tho.... Or, if you don't wanna ruin one, i'll give you that section from mine...
i put a set of Micron full race headers on my R1 along with the carbon slip-ons, so everything got replaced... thus i have everything from a stock exhaust setup sitting in my garage......

and yes, the link you posted above is the piece that normally has the cat converter in it.....
here's the headers i have
http://www.micronexhaust.com/store/prodserpent.htm
if you're interested in getting headers, you're best bet is to go to R1 forum and get used ones... i got mine, a $1800 set of headers, for $400.... the guy had sold his R1 and bought a new Ducati... there's lots of decent deals on parts on that forum

If you have the stock piece with the cat punched through ill definitely try it out or at least give it a test run to see if I like it before buying a new piece.
Any idea on the map setup? I'm not sure if it would need redone or not.
Lastly how much louder would it make the bike? Right now it sounds good with the graves exhaust don't get me wrong its just that I can't believe how quiet it is cruising around town. I want it a little bit louder than what it is now.

the cat is not punched out on my mid-piece, but u'd you'd be more than welcome to punch it out and give it a shot..... i sure won't ever be using it again..... \
As far as the noise level, i don't know that i could help you there.... i went from a set of Scorpion slip-ons, which obviously used the catted mid piece, to a set of full race headers and carbon fiber slip-ons..... The bike is definitely louder, but not drastically.... it will probably give you what you're looking for... a little bit louder, but nothing annoying....
i've heard a lot of exhausts on these bikes, and the only way to make them annoying is to have it dumped with no muffler before the swingarm, or put D&D's on it.... they sound disgusting...

Sweet, trav hit my cell up if you go.. we can meet up
somebody give me an opinion on this bike.

I'm just afraid of the 4-stroke top-ends. I've changed 2-strokes before, but I don't think I'm up for a 4-stroke. and, the add says the valves are new, but nothing of a new piston or rings or cam. I haven't looked at the bike.
don't scare me away (Bish... hahahaha), but give me an idea what I'm looking at for parts and labor for a 4-stroke top-end rebuild if it would come to that.
thanks.

I was in your boat last summer... the case cracked on mine, and i decided i wanted to put a new top end in it while i had it apart... found out that to tear the whole motor down and put it all back together, labor alone was going to be around $500..... I decided to tear into it myself....
truthfully, its not THAT complicated... yes, there's a lot of moving parts, unlike a 2stroke, but its really not that hard to deal with.... just have to stay patient, as it can take a couple tries to get the timing all lined up properly....
looks like a decent bike to me... but i would verify that it doesnt' have a new top end... makes absolutely no sense to replaces valves and not the top end.... there's only one more part to come off, after you get the head off, to replace the top end...
