There's an 09 SV650 brand new leftover at a stealership I found searching. They are going to take 1900 off of the 2009 MSRP. If I can negotiate a little more I just might pull the trigger and get rid of the GS500's.

My newest love. I currently have 3 bikes, this silver V-Strom DL1000 is an amazing bike for doing those 600 mile days that we all love. As far as adventure/sport bikes go, for the price your hard pressed to top the DL1000.

I also have a black 2009 KLR650 for general dual sport use with mild off road and a 2009 KLX250 for dual sport use that involves mainly all off road and single track type work.

    KLR650

    KLX250

I really enjoy all of my bikes, I love each one for what it is designed for. The V-Strom really knocked me off my feet though. I never thought a person could do 5 and 6 hundred miles a day and be ok at the end. Since I'm not a Harley/cruiser kind of guy, I've never been on a rolling road sofa. After doing a 2800 mile week last year on the KLR650, I knew I needed something better for the long rides. Then came the Strom. My life has been changed. The sport touring bikes can be very pleasing.

    Ktm

I was at Bentley's in Murrysville on Saturday drooling over one of these:

    http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motor...KTM-200XCW.htm

Has anybody looked at the KTMs up close lately? They're loaded up with top-shelf bits and pieces. You pay for it though. This 200 is $7,249 + tax and fees.

way too rich for my blood!

Absolutely - I've owned one and they're top not machines... only problem with them is the availability of parts ... even KTM dealers need to order nearly everything from Austria... but there's a reason they're widely regarded as the best woods bikes out there ... the 2strokes are bullet-proof and they're an awesome machine to ride.....

Only problem i had was the last time i rode a KTM 300MXC i was severely dissapointed in the power... i've gotten too used to the kick-ass power of the 450's and the 300 didn't do it for me... but i have half a notion to think there was something not quite right with the bike.. b/c my RM265 had a lot of balls - not near as fast as my 450 - but it certainly felt a load faster than the 300

I'm so afraid of the 450 motocross motors. everybody I talk to says without constant attention to the valves and oil changes, the topend will grenade on you.

ktm made a bike for 2 years (08,09 I think) 450 XC-F. pure motocross bike with an 18-inch rear-wheel, slightly softer suspension, electric start and a few more tidbits. can't find 'em anywhere used, though. peeps must really like that bike. the 200xc uses the 125sx frame, so the bike is very light! nice for woods.

eh, nothing to be afraid of..... I"ve now owned 2 of them, and they aren't as bad as people make them out to be.... Yes, if you're racing motocross, and pushing them up past 10K rpms constantly, and beating the hell out of the motor, then yea i think they will require a lot of maintenance.... However, for woods riding, i check my valves every so often, and they never move.... you can rev the piss outta the motor and it loves it, but they've also got sooo much snaught that you can just shift up a gear and twist..... i almost never rev mine out real high, there's just no real need to... with all the power, i prefer to just take an extra gear and ride out the grunt... the only bad side (or good side )of this is that the bike wants to wheelie more often doing it this way - these thumpers just get SOO much traction

The annoying thing is definitely having to change oil so often, but only holding about .9 quart, it doesn't go through THAT much oil...

I've certainly considered moving back to a 2stroke, just because of ease of maintenance.... but unless you're riding every single weekend, and you'd be going through TONS of oil, its really not that bad having a 4stroke... I think its the guys that race and have TONS of maintenance that scare everyone... oh, and those guys that think they're racers, and do all kinds of maintenance just to make themselves feel important... :D

the electric start would be super awesome for a woods bike though!!! i'd definitely be in for that!
These thumpers aren't hard to start, once you figure out how your bike likes to start... but until you figure out that exact routine to get it started each time, they can be a bear!
