heh... like a wise man once said:

I am hoping someone can help me. I am taking my motorcycle skills test in 2 weeks and would like to know what they make you do. I heard a figure 8. How much room do they give you for different maneuvers? Thanks.
I would recommend taking a motorcycle course at your local community college. You really do learn a lot plus you get your license once the class is completed.
As part of the class you are required to perform basic maneuvers to earn your license such as figure 8's. However each maneuver is a certain number of points and you are docked points when you make a mistake. So if you screw the pooch on a figure 8 and only make a few more minor mistakes you'll still pass.
I has to take a whole month off in Feb. and burned all my vacation up. The basic course is 4 days and 2 of those are during the week. I am going to take the one day course as soon as 1 opens up. I have off road experience, but no real on road experience. I am praticing in parking lots. I wish I could take the 4 day rider course, but I just can't get the time off. So does anybody know what you have to do during the test?
I got my license through the MSF safety course. They use a point system. You start with 0 points and each mistake gives you points. You can get up to 20 points and still pass.
I don't remember every detail, but i do remember that it included the following:
1) figure 8 within a box (forget the size of the box, I *think* it was equivalent to 2-3 parking spaces)
2) Swerve and stop
3) panic stop (you get the bike up to speed, pass some cones, then brake within the allotted distance with the bike in first and your hand on the clutch)
4) basic cornering using slow-look-lean-roll
There were a few other things I'm sure. I forget what the demerit system broke down, but on the figure 8 a foot down was 4 points, going outside the box was 4 points. On the panic stop not having it in first was a few points, exceeding distance was points, not having left foot on the ground was points.
oh, one thing I forgot to mention about BRC vs ERC. With the basic rider course they provide the motorcycles for instruction and the test (rebel 250 or equivalent small maneuverable bike... very easy to pass on those). For the ERC you have to provide the motorcycle and you do the course and test on that. If you take the ERC then know the motorcycle handbook from PennDOT well (or at least better than what you knew it when you took your permit test). Both courses have a written component to the test (well, the BRC did anyway) that you have to pass or you cant even take the skills test.
EDIT - you do know that they offer multiple opportunities to take the courses at multiple places over the entire summer and into the fall?

I do know that. I couln't find any BRC that didn't include weekdays. Registration for the next avalible ERC starts April 23rd. I am going to register for that. MY test is in 2 weeks. If I fail I will get it through the ERC. I hope I don't fail. I've been trying to practice swearving and panic stopping. Thanks for the help.
no problem. good luck with your test.
can you make weekday evenings?
EDIT - I did a search with zip code 15462 and found this course that will open april 26 at:

Friday, June 10 6:00 PM To 8:45 PM
Saturday, June 11 8:00 AM To 5:00 PM

contrary to what my sig says, I still find myself "browsing" the wares at the HD store from time to time. the 2011 wide glide in sedona orange with black flames is a fine "looking" machine, I must say.![]()
2019 Colorado ZR2
Honda make a nice 250 commuter/learning bike as well now. It just came out. Looks like a baby VFR
