Scary stuff after the surgery...
I was going to wait to update in the morning, but we have such a wonderful family and friends that are praying and really care about Mark, I couldn't wait till then.
Mark came out of recovery around 8pm tonight and was moved to his room. When we went up to see him of course he was in pain and still coming out of anesthesia. His nurses were there checking his vitals and when I went to him, he looked pale to me and he was sweating. I told his nurse that he didn't look right, so they kept monitoring him. After a few minutes, Mark was starting to be unresponsive, and his nurse said that there would be a lot of people coming in and a crash cart. I stayed with Mark as long as I could, but they made me leave. They started giving him more fluids, his heart rate went up but blood pressure was going down. They got him stable. After about 45 minutes to 1 hr, he started to be more awake and knew that I was there along with Sonya, Joey and our dear friend Father John. About 45 minutes later, I was going to leave and get some sleep and Sonya was going to stay with him. I was watching him sleep, but his breathing was not right nor was his color and he started to sweat and I could not get any blood reaction in his fingertips. He would not respond to me. I called the nurse and Mark went into cardiac arrest. They hurried me, Sonya and Joey to the family lounge and worked on Mark. They brought him back and stabilized him and moved him to ICU. Mark is okay, he is stable! He does have a breathing tube and is sedated. They are giving him blood and fluids and watching him very closely! We were able to see him for a little while and he is is doing fine! Mark is okay now! He will stay in ICU for a couple of days and then be moved back to his room. I'm sorry to have to tell you all this, but you're our family and we both love you all! I'm okay!
Please continue to pray for Mark! He will beat all of this! I need to get some sleep and I will be with him tomorrow as long as I can! We love you all!!
Good Night,
Christine

I'm sad for the loss of my friend, but I'm even sadder for my friend Christine, losing the love of her life. Here is her post on the Caring Bridge page today.
Today my best friend, my buddy and my wonderful awesome husband went to Heaven today. Mark fought hard after his cardiac arrest, but he was just too tired. We gave and tried everything to get Mark better. I tried everything. Mark was with his sons, brother and family. I was with him when he passed alone, we did this together just like we did everything together. I am making arrangements and I will post them as soon as everything is finalized.
I want to thank every single employee at Shadyside Hospital, Family House and all his doctors.
I want to thank each and everyone of you! Your prayers, your thoughts meant the world to Mark and to me.
God's race car needs a new motor, and Mark is building it for him.....
God speed my love......
Wow!! sorry to hear!! Your in our prayers!!

Sorry for your loss. From the way people talk about him he was an amazing person. R.I.P
So sorry for your loss. You have my condolences.
I have to say, im really bummed about this terrible loss but the more I think about it, if Mark knew his destiny he would not have changed a thing. The man stuck it out and finished motors for customers a week before getting operated on even though he was in terrible pain.
Ive known Mark since the early 90's when he built the 1st race car I ever drove down the 1320 @ Keystone. It was a 72 buick Skylark with a killer 406 SBC, it ran 11.20's on a mild compression pump gas motor. He was always there for you and willing to offer help and advice. You could pretty much guarantee he was at the shop all week and also at the race track on race day. I always looked forward to talking with him at the track or when he would come into the shop for parts, he always had a good story and a smile on his face. He was a true car guy who had race gas in his veins!!! No matter how bad things got @ PRP he always preached to me that it was all we had and we needed to support it. You will not find a bigger icon in the local racing community. RIP Mark!
