Prayers needed please - Mark Brewer

Mark Brewer Sr, owner of the Motorworks, as dyed in the wool Mustang and Ford man as you can get, needs our prayers. He has been diagnosed with a type of cancer and will be operated on the day before Thanksgiving. You can sign up for the updates on his CaringBridge page:

    http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/markbrewer

I'll also post them in here, if it's ok with Lou.

I've met Mark numerous times in his pit area at PRP. As nice a guy as you would ever want to meet. He builds and maintains my friends race engine every year, (Brian Berg...Yellow Pinto ).

I'll surely keep him in my prayers.

    Saturday's post from Christine:

    Saturday, November 7, 2009 1:19 PM, EST
What a beautiful day and Mark is doing what he loves to do, racing. He wants to get the last couple days in before surgery. He is going to do what he wants to do and that's okay by me! Mark continues to go to work each day and tries not to push himself, but sometimes he gets tired sooner than he wants it too. But he keeps himself busy. Two more motors to finish and that will be it for awhile. But knowing my husband like I do, he'll try and squeeze out one more!
Most of the news has set in now that we both have had time to process it. But there is still more information that we will need to know and decisions to be made. Now, this cancer is treatable and beatable! After all, Mark has a great team behind him! He has all of us! It is just going to take time and he has to slow down. That's the hard part, how can you tell someone who is full of wind, piss and excitement to slow down!? When we start this journey on the 25th, he will start to figure out which motor he will build for his race car, go figure! I guess that's why I love him so much, and I will not let anything happen to him! He is always thinking ahead!

We have some family who live far away and that's why we started this too! Uncle Mark misses you all! Beth, does Alexis still have Uncle Mark's flashlight? Everytime he puts his new one in his pocket, he thinks of her! We will stay in touch and get information to all of you one way or the other!

Thank you, thank you to everyone for your prayers, thoughts and kind words! Just keep the prayers coming, we can feel them.

    Today's entry:

Another beautiful day I hope everyone got outside to enjoy the last of nice weather before the cold is here! Mark went racing yesterday but went out in the 3rd round, but he had fun and that's what counts. He told me that everyone came up to him and gave him big hugs with words of encouragement. That meant a lot to him and to me! Thank you! He was a bit tired and in some pain, but we went over his time cards and told me about every race. He was proud he had a .0005 light! Good for you!
We are counting the days now till surgery and a lot is on Mark's mind. We go to Dr. Muna Jabbour's on Tuesday for pre-op testing. Dr. Muna is more that just our PCP. She is our friend too! We have some questions for her and concerns naturally. Mark does have to have a stress test due to irregularities in the EKG that were taken at both hospitals when he collapsed. I can tell that he is getting anxious and nervous. I do my best to let him know what goes on in pre-op the day of surgery. This will be the first time he will have major surgery! Can you believe that? He has always been healthy! I try to give him as much information that I can. What we don't know, we write it down. I did tell him though, to make sure they shave his chest hair before they put the leads for the heart monitors! When he had them on at the hospital and we pulled them off, let's just say it wasn't too pleasant with all the hair! Mark said "How do you women get waxed!" LOL...You should have seen his face!
Well, he is sleeping and had a so-so day. His sister-in-law, Suzanne and neice Ali and my sister Lorraine came today for a visit. We had a good visit. We had a picnic and cooked out on the grill! I could see the tears coming in his eyes, but he did well to hide it from them. But not from me! He managed to get some cars moved and put away. He wants to do alittle each day so everything is done. I asked to help, but I know he wants to be alone.
    So, the journey has begun.
I do read all the messages that you all have left for him. He says "Thank You"! We, I appreciate your prayers and thoughts! What a great huge family we have! Thank you to all who helped on Saturday at the racetrack! Your kindness will not be forgotten! Thank you again, and good night!
Just one more thing, always, "Thinking of Nikki"......our Angel girl!

    The update from Monday:

    Monday, November 9, 2009 7:48 PM, EST
I don't know how to start tonight, just too many emotions today! After having a somewhat good weekend, I can see more pain coming for Mark. He had a good day till around 4:30pm, and the pain started, but he kept going! Then we went to leave to go to Bob and Karen's for a visit and he couldn't find his keys. We looked everywhere, called customers to see if they took his keys by mistake. We kept looking but the pain was getting worse. So I brought him home to rest and to eat. After he had some dinner we went back to look again. The whole time he kept saying I must be losing my mind too! Thankfully one of our customer accidentally took his keys, the one we didn't call! Anyway, by the time we got back home he could hardly walk. It breaks my heart that I can't fix this! I feel so helpless! But I can't let him see me cry! And I won't! Just sometimes he tries to do more and it hurts him that he can't. I guess we're on a bad roller coaster ride!

Before Mark goes to bed, I read the messages left here for him. He is truly thankful for your prayers and thoughts! He said he would do this himself , but it would take more than two hours to type and then probably loose it because he just not comfortable on the computer. That's why he has me! I was named his communication director! LOL We just want to keep our big family informed and our big "racing" family also! It never ceases to amaze me what a racing family does for each other! When something breaks, we all pull together! Always there for each other no matter what! Thank you!

I don't know what else to say except today was a bad day. Just full of emotions!

    Good night.

    Always, "Thinking of Nikki".......
