    Free my beer!!!

I don't know how many of you have seen this, but I would imagine a lot of you would want to sign this. I did!

If you support the convenient and responsible sale of beer in Pennsylvania’s grocery and convenience stores, join in to change the state's restrictive and out-of-date beer laws.

That is how I found out about it as they have flyers up in all of their stores and brochures on it. I have no problem with it though because without a major business backing this effort it has no chance of passing. I mean think about it, I'm 32yrs old and for at least as long as I have been alive these archaic rules have been in effect. This state has a lot of such outdated rules, and I'm glad to see an effort is being made to change just one of them, even if it is motivated via business.

With the amount of people that frequent all of the Sheetz locations in this state, I'd be surprised if this doesn't succeed.

    I'm not signing this!

If this is passed it will have adverse effects on small businesses (beer distributors/bars) who have paid exorbitant amounts of money for their liquor license and in yearly state/federal taxes.

If you're too lazy to drive an extra few miles to support your neighbor who owns the local beer distributor or bar than you don't deserve to drink!

Me neither. Plus it will be a huge hassle to buy it in Giant Eagles, it won't be like other states where they have a beer aisle. Has anyone noticed the amount of Walgreens, CVS's and RiteAid popping up on every available corner? They're banking on this passing, that'll kill any of the small time pharmacies that are still left.

The LCB is screwed up...why can't I order a case of beer from out of state that's not available for sale here? Small time places can't order it either, they're bound to only what the distributor has. Stupid quakers.

My fear is that if we start selling beer everywhere then there won't be as many beer distributors who actually sell microbrews and such. That's one of the things I really liked when I moved to PA, there was a great variety of beer. You don't really get that in other states. I don't miss being able to buy beer in the grocery store or convenience store at all to be honest. My only wish is that you could buy beer later. In WV you can buy beer till 2 and liquor till 10 I think. It would be nice to be able to do that here.

I read yesterday that Giant Eagle in some spots got the rights and permit to sell. My parents live in Canonsburg, the one in McMurray I guess got the green light.

I personally like Campys in California for all my beer needs.

Yeah but the problem with those places is you can't make a late night beer run.

I can hear what some of yinz are saying, but I don't think "the man" needs to have his hand into every little aspect of your life. For chrissakes, the commonwealth controls every thing else we do, why do they have to control the booze?

And, with so many more outlets, there will be MORE competition and lower prices. I think you'll see MORE specialty stores trying to outdo the next guy with market-driven pricing... not state-mandated pricing.

Ever price a bottle of whiskey or 12-pack in a BP in WV? Now, the stuff near the ocean and beaches is expensive because the "market" will drive those prices up. When you're looking to get your booze on when you're on vaca, you'll pay whatever, but check some stores inland. The prices are hella cheap, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Giant Eagle has quite a few stores selling beer now. I have done the wiring for the coolers on 5 of them and just got home from working on one in seven fields.
They have to do a lot of silly things to make it compliant with the LCB rules.

your own fault for not being able to get beer late at night, go a little earlier or get it the day before if you know you dont have the time!

While I respect that some people do not believe in this, there are some things to keep in mind.

While one may want to save the "Mom & Pop" shops, one day, Mom & Pop will pass away. This means that someone else will have to come in and buy their license for an exorbitant amount of money. Why does it have to be that difficult?

Someone also mentioned that the distributors paid a lot of money for their license. So what? They're still going to sell a ton of cases and kegs.

The fact of the matter is people simply want to purchase fewer items, especially those people who want to try out new beers. Why does one have to purchase a case for that? Why could one not simply pick up a 6 pack, or a bottle of wine, for their dinner when shopping at the store?

If the distributors are so concerned, do they forget that they can keep longer hours 7 days a week? More time for revenue! Gee... difficult concept.

Most things in Pennsylvania are archaic. This is more glaring to me since I had moved away and came back. Pittsburgh, especially, is even more stuck in the dark ages of progression than anywhere else. This is not meant as an insult, rather it's just an observation from someone who is impartial.

Instead of our elected officials trying to uphold these antiquated laws (from prohibition!), they should move on to bigger issues such as our new healthcare fiasco.

Economics 101 ..... Supply and demand! If this bill is passed PA will hand out Beer/Liquor license to every Tom, Dick and Harry with a convenience store which will destroy the value of any pre-bill license.

There are numerous shops/bars that will allow you to purchase 6 packs and even mix match in Pittsburgh?

PA Blue Sky Law prohibits the sale of alcohol on Sunday. I doubt very much if this bill passes this would be changed.

You may call it archaic I call it responsible .... didn't your parents ever tell you just because everyone else is doing "it" it doesn't make it right.

Truth of the matter is there are several "Business" men like Tom Sheetz who have their selfish reasons trying to pass this bill. If these people get what they want just watch what happens to all your local beer distributors. Sheetz is a cancer just like Walmart who destroy local businesses. Yeah great you can save $1.50 on a six pack but do you ever wonder why unemployment rates are sky rocketing?

We can agree on one thing ... This health care bill is a fiasco!
