    During a 1/4 mile blast.....

What, if anything do you recall most easily about the run? What is most prominent to you?

For me: The launch/ gear changes/ clutchin' and killin' it at the stripe (believe it or not)

    How about your interpretations???

Here's what's going through my head and I'm concentrating on the most:
-inch forward enough to stage as shallow as possible
-getting the launch RPM just right before the tree starts to fall
-slipping the clutch just right to negate wheel spin but to also come out as hard as possible
-getting out of that first 60' and 330' as quickly as possible nailing 2nd and third quickly at the perfect RPM
-picking an object at the far end of the track and aiming for it so that I go as straight as possible down it.

All of this has taken under 5 seconds to occur, so for the remaining 6-7 seconds of the run I'm relatively calm. LOL!

I'm into 4th before the 1/8 mile so by that time I'm basically just along for the ride and the only thing I'm thinking about is staying perfectly straight and pushing that damn accelerator pedal as far into the floor as it'll go.

Its almost like if I do all my work as good as I can in the beginning I can enjoy the last 1/2 of it with relative ease. If I screw up and the launch, miss a shift, miss my shift point etc. I'm a basket case the rest of the way down wondering how badly it effected my time and what I did wrong.

I've been down the strip so many times that I pretty much don't think of anything. I don't even have to watch the tach anymore I can tell buy the sound and feel of the motor when to shift. It is amazing how you actually become part of the car. I can feel any change in the car that is not normal.

If you remember back Troy I was working the tree the last part of the rental at PRP. I had an up-close view of your launch technique with a certain LX foxbody. What an incredible view when you are the starter. I could see the rpm's @ launch.
