    PS delete

Has anyone deleted the power steering on their 94-95? My car is just a perfect weather weekend crusier that will see the track a few times a year. The look of the motor without that hideous bracket looks so much better.

What all is involved and is it worth the time to do it?

I deleted mine and went with the Flaming river kit to do so.
Very nice kit that came with everything needed to do the job.

Dont get me wrong, your not going to be doing any parallel parking with manual steering but its not nearly as bad as most that have never done it make it out to be. I dont regret it one bit and it does really clean-up that driver side of the engine bay.

On the '95 vert I had, I rednecked it and chopped the power rack lines off and left the ends open. Once the car got to about 5-10 mph you couldn't tell it was not there, and that was with the power rack on it. My sister who weighed about 140#s used to drive it alot and parallel park it. This was with stock tires in the front. The fox has a full flaming river kit with skinnys in the front, to be honest the steering isn't that much better.

Amazing enough, my Capri is EASIER to turn with 50 series street tires on the front than my tall skinnies in low speed situations (parking). You kind of get used to always having the car moving to park it. I'll even just make a few shots rather than kill myself.

The REALLY neat one was here at the end of this season. We just welded up my spider / side gears so I could move the car around. you better make sure it's pointed where you want it to go before giving it any gas with a locked rear end.

    Street wheels = 17 x 9 w/ 245-45-17
    Drag wheels = 15 x 3.5 w/ 26 x 15 M.T. sportsmen S.R.

Od course its easier with the skinnies on their but not bad with the 17's

So all you did was take the pulley bracket off and cut the lines off?

I wouldn't just cut the lines off, I'd replace the rack. I don't know how true this is, but, I've heard the rack could lock up without the fluid pumpin through it.

Yeppers. You can probably unscrew them. I heard that the lines can't be kinked shut, they have to be "open". Fluid WILL come out of the lines at first when turning the wheels lock to lock. I drove mine this way for at least 2 years as a daily driver, never had anything lock on me. You could pull the pump, Disconnect the lines, not cut, and drive around a few days to see how you like it. If it sucks, I don't see why you couldn't hook everything back up, bleed it and be back to stock.

The rack has 2 lines on it. I've heard if you get a line to connect both holes you'll have a self contained system and it won't bind up because you still have oil inside.

Thats what I was told about the VWs. Should be the same for everything else to

That seems like it would make sense actually. Plugging the holes up would probably suffocate the rack and cause it to lock up, but if its self contained, somewhat like a self contained SC is, it should work.

So a guy on corral just offered me a straight up trade; my power steering assembly for his flaming assembly. He said his car has turned into a more often driver so he wants the power steering again. I think I'm going to take it.

I've never had to mess with steering before. How difficult is it to remove?
