    Drag racer killed in Mustang

I found this on another board. All I can say is WOW!! And this was a caged race car. Makes you wonder, what alot of our fast cars without a cage would look like.

I saw that on superstalliuons and the corral. Its sad indeed and it definitely makes you think. I've been putting off a proper roll bar in my car for a number of years now because I don't want to hassle it give me on the street where it spends 98% of its time, but this is making me rethink this.

This is the reason I worry about guys racing their cars without a roll bar and safety belts, at the very least. Sure, that does not guarantee that you won't get hurt or killed, but when a car running 120 mph through the 1/4 mile goes awry, the chance of survival are not so good without them, IMO.
Of course, many of us have likely experienced moments in our lives where we may have taken part in a little "street action", and some of us may have even cheated death a couple of times doing so.
For this guy, RIP, it looks like the car was just literally torn to pieces going through that guardrail and hitting those h-beams. A cement barrier likely would have kept the car on the track surface, and also likely in one piece, which would then have allowed the safety equipment a chance to work.

PRP is going to be putting up jersey barriers and getting rid of the guard rails soon. I think that it will be done for 2008 but not sure. IHRA is making it a must for insurance reasons.

I still see guys (nonpro) who come to the line with no helmet, loose belts, loose helmets,no fire jacket, low tires or just plain unsafe cars at the top end. You got to remember that a lap belt won't really keep you from getting hurt it might keep you in the car. If you want to try to run fast in your street ride at the track, just check your stuff first.
