With an engine that needs to rev to get in the powerband (like yours)....and is expected to run on the street, I just don't see how that's even possible with an auto....it will need too much convertor to be much of a street car.

i'm thinking it could possibly make some torque too if it ends up being more than 400 ci

Not 100% yet but leaning toward the AOD because of cost, the PG I theoretically need is close to $4000 w/o converter.
The AOD I'm may go with is kinda trick with a custom 2.20 ratio first gear and should be good for 1500hp (same as Lentech and Freddie Brown rate theirs, uses FB VB). Some people feel the AOD vs. TH400 (with stock gear set) is a lateral move and its basically the same cost but I'd have a better first gear ratio for me (2.20>2.48) and the addition of electric OD just for highway.
Still, talked to some people I trust with my power level and PGs and they love them on the street. PG is very sensitive to converter with just the 2 gears, but it would be better on marginal tracks and being able to leave on boost is a plus .
I hear you and partially agree, but there are some fast guys with high stalls that still really can street drive. My friend Tim on another site has a NA 408 with a 5500 8" converter and ran drag week. With an engine that needs to rev to get in the powerband (like yours)....and is expected to run on the street, I just don't see how that's even possible with an auto....it will need too much convertor to be much of a street car.

I think that would be your best choice. I was real close to ordering a Spec twin. I'd probably recommend Spec or Ram.
Still, I've been extremely impressed with my single Spec 3+. It took everything I could throw at it until I started to hook off the line. I could get in the car now and it would drive fine and hold the 15psi power in high gear, just blowing through the clutch when hooking off the line at the track. For example, I spun the first pass in Columbus at the NMRA and went 10.21@148 then the next 2 passes hooked and blew through it. Driveability is great with the 3+, much better than the previous 3. The twins are supposed to be even better on the street.
Depends on how much power you really plan on, I believe the 3+ single is rated like 880 ft. lbs. and my car made 900rwtq, so they're close :)
The twins are much more expensive but do include a flywheel usually.

It seems as if the emphasis of this build is going to be orientated at the track. What percentage will it be driven on the street?
