    Help me w/ Truck Tires!

So.. I'm looking for opinions of good truck tires. I Have an 07 ext cab silverado w/ the optional 18's. Factory tires are bridgestone duellers, and they are absolute JUNK! I went to New Haven CT last xmas and got stuck in a huge snow storm so I had no choice but to goto the local firestone. All they had were my same factory tires so I had to get them. Now, less then 20k later, there shot. And they don't have any warranty or milleage pro-rates. At this point, I don't care what they cost or ride like, I want something decently aggresive, and very high milleage tires. I don't care how rough they ride or how bad my gas is. Any good recommendations? good tires to look for?

My old man has a set of firestone destinations and loves them, they just don't come in my OEM tire size. But being as I did a almost 3 inch lift kit, I can stand to go up a size or 2.

    Thanks, Dan

    BTW, factory size is 265/65/18

I am a big fan of any Cooper tires for my trucks. I have run the old style Discoverer for ever, loved the traction ,wear, priced right, etc. My current Dodge has 20" wheels so I was rather frustrated by what was out there in that size (glorified summer tires). Lucky for me, Cooper came with a "new" tire about when I needed them.

Pictures of what I got in this old thread ....

    http://www.steelcitystangs.com/forum...ghlight=cooper

I was out most of yesterday in the truck. Was running around all last night in 2wd with no issue. With the Goodyear's that came with it, I would have been in 4X4. They have worn well, are pretty quiet, and do pretty well in the snow, light mud, etc. Not a great off road tire, but they do well.

Idk what firestone you went to but if you come to bethal park we will treat you right. You can't get a prorate on factory tires since they are not acutally bridgestone/firestone tires. From the factory its a different rubber compound. The duelers revos are awesome tires!! They just came out with the revo 2. I suggest you get those. From the factory they are junk. They do that for ride quailty on test drive. I can tell you and promise you any bridgestone tire will outperform the goodyears if its a comparable tire in same conditions. Bridgestone rules all.

any factory tire will only last about 10-20k miles. aftemarket revos will last 50K if taken care of ...ie balance rotate align. etc...

I have heard a lot of good reviews about these and they will probably be the next set I buy. Excelent traction and very little road noise.

I understand what your saying, but the tires are there now are from a firestone store, not a dealer. They are NOT my original tires, the OEM's from the dealership were shot at 20k. Now these ones are shot at about 15k. You think a friestone store can do anything? I seen the destination comes in a 270/65/18, that will fit fine with my lift.

If you want inexpensive I bought 31" tires for my f150 from import export tire in Monroeville for about $150.00 for all four. They were recaps but worked awesome!

I run Nokian Vativa's on my 03 F250 Crewcab. They are made by Cooper and I have been very happy with them. They are great in the snow.

General Grabber AT2. Loved them on my Lincoln and my Ram will get a set as soon as the ones that came from the factory on it are shot.

I've heard good things about the AT2's as well...considering the price.

My buddy had them on his 1-ton dump and the fronts where cupping pretty bad.....but the dampers were pretty worn too...

I"m not sure on the price difference between the BFG's and the Generals, but if it's a big enough difference, I'm leaning toward the Generals.

How many miles on yours Ed?

Dan, here's a couple pics of my truck with 305/65/18 BFG AT's. I've always ran these tires on my other trucks and got good mileage out of them. These have only been on for about 5k so I don't really know how they're going to be on a full size truck, but still look new. There's never been anywhere I couldn't go in the snow with these.

I managed to put about 15k miles on them before I got rid of the Lincoln and could not notice any difference in the tread depth from when new. When I researched them, it seems like most people get at least 60k out of them. I had 3 sets of the BFG like stangman on the truck and got a total of 54k miles out of them combined. The BFG was the stock tire on the truck.

The AT2's were almost $50 a piece cheaper than the BFG's in the 275/65/18 that my truck took. I paid $142 each mounted and balanced for the AT2's at Marsh Tire. The AT2's also have almost the identical tread pattern as the BFG's.

Wow....the BFG A/T typically holds it own for tread wear....

I'll give Kevin a call when I get home...see if he can get the size I need.

i used to use bfg's on all my old lifted 4wd trucks years ago i ran 35x12.5x15's and averaged 50k a set. now my 05 2500hd needed tires so i tried bfg's on it. these are the new KO all terrains unlike my previous bfgs i bought. they worked well, stiff sidewall and everything. but they didn't last. they were 285/70/17(33") it seems like the new KO'S have softer rubber. i went with 10 ply nitto terra grapplers this time. lovin them so far.

Yeah, I could not wait to wear them out on my old Dakota, and they would not go away. Maybe one of the worst tires I ever drove in the snow ... The tread would pack up with snow and glaze over, you had to keep spinning them to clean them. Nice summer tire and very light off road. Couldnt give me another set of them.

Shouldn't need to know anyone special. Mine were 65 series. Here's a link to Tire Rack:

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....autoModel=Mark LT 4x4&autoModClar=

If you talk to either Kevin or Chad, they should be able to beat their price.
