I found a 2003 Crown Vic with the police interceptor package for only $595. It was in a "minor accident" but the pics are pretty clear and tell me it has frame damage.

I'm not so interested in restoring it (although having a police car to make people slow down on the highway for the lulz would be awesome!) but rather for the drivetrain. The ad says it has a well-working engine and trans and its the DOHC version of the mod motor. It has 176,000 clicks on it (approx 109,000 miles). I suspect that a tow bill from where it is to my house is going to run about 200-300 bucks.

Would you buy it knowing that its just a parts car and its going to cost you 800-900 to get it home?

I don't think they put DOHC 4.6's in crown vic's.

^he's right. they only came with SOHC 4.6 engines


what parts would you use off of it besides engine? if you got another crown vic than you can use everything you need, but if you want parts for a stang i dont think you will be able to use much besides the engine..

^^ that sucks, and there's not much point in getting it then. I was hoping being a "police package" that it got the DOHC, but if its just the SOHC there's no point in getting it.

I wouldn't have minded a crown vic for the potential lulz factor but a SOHC automatic drivetrain isn't something I'm looking for since any 99-04 mustang GT has the SOHC engine and I can get a manual trans.

EDIT - did some research real quick... yeah all crown vics are 2v SOHC :(

ya the police package was mainly upgrades to the suspension, air intake, and exhuast among some other small things. they shoulda put the DOHC in it, that'd be badass

it would be, and I was hoping there was some difference with canadian models but there isn't :(

It might even feel more like a dog with a dohc in it being a heavy pig with the lack of lower rpm tq. The merc. maurader has that going against it..
