i've heard of a few big cats lurking in the woods where i'm at (near altoona) but havent seen any for myself. in the 4.5 years i've been driving coal truck, i've seen a bunch of coyotes, fox & 3 bobcats (just saw one this morning). i've seen all of these out near where i haul out of near Brush Valley. i've also heard rumors of several wolves in the region, but i've never seen one. i'd like to see a wolf though! that would make my day

From what the PA Game Commision says, you are correct. Every once in awhile there are some rumors of a friend's friend's cousin's neighbor's visiting son in law seeing a big cat. The big cats were hunted out of the area in the late 1800s I believe, and now are only found out west.
looked it up and this what I found
According to "official" facts and sources, the mountain lion is allegedly found in only thirteen states: Arizona, California, Idaho, Colorado, Florida, South Dakota, Montana, New Mexico, Washington, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. We know better than that and have personally seen evidence of cougars in Oklahoma. Mountain lions have been displaced as man has moved farther and farther into the mountain lion's habitat.
my wifes family has an 80+ farm in wash twp that borders beaver run dam.
when i was first dating my wife some 13-14 yrs ago, i left the house at 3am to come home towards delmont/murrysville and saw a coyote in the middle of rt 66 eating a road kill. no joke. thats something i'll always remember.
her uncle also shot a black bear in thier driveway there some time back.
I got that same pic in an email, 3days ago saying that the cat was shot in Boyer,Pa (between franklin & butler) by coyote hunters
I never hold any truth to the emails i get like this...
