I used to be a 70 - 81 Camaro guy but wanted to get a newer car. Made the mistake of buying a 3rd gen camaro and realized what a joke GM had played on the Camaro guys. 7.5 rear, single exaust, terrible interior lay out, ETC. Bought an 80 coupe with a 302-C4-8.8 and was hooked.

    You'll laugh

    Actually started with my mother.
    She owned a '66 2+2 from about 91-08.

Haven't found quite what I'm looking for yet, so the search continues.

    Currently drive a '05 F150 4x4.

my dad got me into them... he has had some kind of mustang ever since i was born (even before then). '90 lx, 2003 GT, '97 v6, '79 pace car... He's also had some other cool fords. turbo coupe, merkur xr4ti.

All the cars hes had, him letting me watch/help out when working on cars (as well as teaching me a lot about them in the process), and going to carlisle all ford nationals for the first time when i was 5 all got me into stangs.

It also helped that every vehicle we ever had was a Ford so they all had problems, so i guess you could say i got a lot of hands on experience working on cars

My Dad has also been into cars as long as I can remember - mostly Fords. A '68 LTD 2-door was the first car he ever bought new - about 2 weeks before the day I was born. My parents have told me that I was almost born IN that car... It was presidential blue with a black vinyl top and the really cool mag-style optional 5-spoke hubcaps with the red centers. It had a 390 2bbl automatic and was one of the best-riding cars I have ever driven. He also had, and still has, a '57 Thunderbird. So thanks to Dad, I had a lot of experience with neat Fords at an early age.

I used to read every one of the major car mags from cover to cover every month - R&T, Car & Driver, Motor Trend, etc. - and I always liked the whole "Bang for the Buck" discussions. The 5.0 Mustangs always did well and seemed the easiest to modify. So my first car back in '91 was a nice '88 GT 5-speed hatch. I was hooked from the test drive - which happened on a snowy, icy January day. The dealer almost gave it away - knocking $3k off the price - so I ended up with a 3-year old 31k mile GT for a little over 8k.

Next I joined a local Mustang club and really started liking the vintage Mustangs. So a year later I bought a basketcase '66 Mustang that, after 8 years of financial and actual bloodletting, became the "Green Monster" in my avatar. :) A bunch of other Mustangs have come and gone, but the Green Monster is with me for the duration!!

By the way - great thread!!!!

My buddy Jackson and the dude down the street named Tom Brown who I actually just talked to tonite for the first time in years, plus a few other buddies had'em back in the day. Everytime we told them to bake'em off n spin'em they would, haha!!! Everytime thou they would! N I always thought they sounded incredible! But my senior prom in 2000 I took the Stang I currently own now to it. I was pretty much totally hooked after that.

My dad had a 67 Mustang with a 390 in that he bought new. After restoring it twice, he finally sold it in 89. So growing up, that is what my dad and i did on the weekends-work on that car and then go to car shows when it was finished. I grew up loving them and I guess it stuck.

When I was about 8 or 9 my dad had a 70 coupe with a 289 and a 4 spd. Thats what got me started. I bought my 69 coupe in 89 (still got it) and had several other stangs since then including; a 79 Capri RS 302 4 spd, 88 GT auto, 82 302 auto, 97 GT 5 spd, 84 GT350 conv. (Ares now owns), 87 notch (a very slow project that I still have), 00 GT 5 spd (still have this one too). I think thats all of them.

Janel. This whore I was dating at the time convinced me to buy a brand new 93 yellow lx vert. She soon left, but I've had stangs ever since.

HAHAH Man, same here. Exactly!! With a dash that looked like it would cut you in half in a frontal collision.

I was also a GM guy. Had multiple Camaros, TransAms, MonteCarlo,Regal,ElCamino, etc.
I always liked the Foxbodys, but had never been around them much, though I did own an '85 4 banger for a while.
Well, my last Camaro before getting my current Fox was a nightmare. It was a '91 Z28 with the L98 350 TPI engine. Great handling and great torque.
The car just wasn't reliable. Even with minimal mods there was always something going wrong with it. It left me stranded probably three or four times. Before I dumped more time and money into it I decided to get a Fox Mustang. I've had it about 6 years now and it's been an awesome vehicle. More reliable and fun than the Camaro and other GM's I've had ever were.

Same here except it was a '89. All stock and that car felt fast as balls. He traded it straight up for a civic to drive back and forth to college.

When I was a little kid (from 3 or 4 on, not kidding) I had subscriptions to C+D, and Motor Trend. I used to memorize all the performance stats, focusing on 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. In 1987, I remember reading an article about the new 225 hp 5.0's that were out. Except this one wasn't the heavier, relatively expensive GT, it was the LX 5.0. Barely over 11K (I think, it's been awhile), and quoted at 14.2 in the quarter. As fast as a corvette, for half the price. I was hooked, at 7 years old. Still have the article, somewhere.

My sister's boyfriend let me borrow his 2000 gt to drive to my senior prom in 2002 in exchange for a full detail job before I returned it. It had an off road x, flowmaster catback, and 4.10's. It was the first mustang I had driven and I was hooked. I Then had to have one and bought my 95 cobra in December 2003 after looking for over a year for the right one.

My first car was a Maverick (that dates me a little) and I have been a Ford guy ever since. I have owned three mustangs. The first was a 1990 white GT. I bought it new as a daily driver. My only mod to it was to remove the air silencer box in the fender well. After two consecutive snowy winters, and after burning through two sets of Goodyear Gatorbacks, I traded it in on a new '94 4x4 Ranger, which I still have. After a nasty divorce and subsequent financial recovery I bought a 2000 Mustang GT. The only mod I did to that was a set of Magnapacks. Boy did that thing sound sweet. When I saw what the S197's were going to look like I ordered one in July 2005. Got it December 13th '05 as on '06 model. I've done just enough to this one where it makes it hard to justify trading it in on a new 5.0, but maaaaaan do I want one.
