    Ed & Chuck's excellent (?!?!?!!!) adventure

Thanks to Ed (Ares), my '69 Cutlass is finally getting some attention to the body.

We're starting on the passenger side. This shot shows the inner wheelwell rot, and a portion of the trunk rot. It's hard to see, but follow the roll bar to the bottom, and you can see some of the holes over the floor brace. Second shot shows the back lip of the trunk, the patch/mud we found and cut out, and the inner wheelwell deterioration.

    Outer wheelwell/quarter opening rot:

Quarter and outer wheelwell removed shows how bad the trunk and quarter extension (the mangled piece hanging) are:

    Ed welding the outer wheelwell:

He fabbed up a nice patch for the inner wheelwell front:

10 minutes after he hadn't welded anything, we wondered why there was still smoke coming up the trunk lid. Lesson learned: always remove everything on the other side of what you weld. And always give yourself at least 15 minutes after welding something before leaving the garage.

Edit for the above pic... that was the back seat, upper portion. The welding heat had the padding smoldering.

    Trunk floor getting prepped:

    And new floor piece in:

Ed fabbed up the triangular piece, goes from under the taillight into the trunk, to meet up the trunk floor and quarter extension:

We were all set to hang the quarter this past Saturday, but Mother Nature, well, you know what she did...

All the pics are on the album, and they're pretty much in order so far. Thanks Ed for all the help. I'm excited about how much more solid the car is becoming.

I figured it would work out... less air resistance with no hole-y metal! :D

Yah we completely forgot about the back seat. Lets just say whatever GM used for padding(wasn't foam) really REALLY stinks when it's smolders.

I still need to rebuild trunk floor along the wheel well infront of the down tube on his rollbar. Get quarter on and finish rebuilding back of inner wheelhouse and finish welding trunk floor/extension in place. Then it's rinse and repeat on driver side along with few other minor spots of missing metal. 22gauge sheet metal so nice to work with.

Now if it would stop snowing, work could continue.

Made some more progress on Sunday. Got the inner wheelwell patch in the back where it meets the outer wheelwell and trunk, welded the trunk floor to the extension. You can about pick the car up from the new trunk floor piece, it's now that solid. Inner wheelwell where it meets the trunk floor will be a challenge of sorts, in front of the roll bar. Quarter is measured up and ready for the new skin, which was measured and remeasured to make sure it's the right fit and overlap.
