Good to know, seems it must only be the 2.3 "off the shelf" piston with this issue. Guys that had them made custom were real happy, off the shelf guys not so much ;)

Nice build, keep the details coming

The main bores were 2.752" Spec is 2.750"

Redoing the align hone will give me a little more crush as well.

The coating thickness is only ~.00025"

So the main bores are .002 too big.

    You measured .0025 clearance.

The bearing coating is .00025 thick.

    .0025(currently)-.001(to bring back to spec)-.00025(coating) = .00125 clearance

You are on a different page...

Just because the main bore is reduced by .001 doesn't mean you bearing clearance will be reduced the same amount.

It may not change the bearing clearance at all. The bearing is just going to have more crush on it.

Not to mention the coating will actually reduce the bearing clearance by twice that amount as both the top and bottom bearing are coated.

    .

    yep...late-night mental block.

I guess you'll have to get the align hone redone and then see what the actual numbers are.....

I don't think you're going to get away with reducing the crank journal in the block by .002 and not changing the clearance, unless there is currently no bearing crush at all.

    That intake is sick!!

F.A.S.T are easily the best intakes on the market for a lsx car

Got the block back after decking and re-checking the main bearing bores:

Had to do a little clearancing where the stroker crank brings the rod bolt close to the bottom of the cylinder:

    Specified end gaps:

Since the bore is 4.0635, we'll set the gap for the tops rings at 4.0635 x .0045 = .018"

Using a ring seating tool to seat the top rings in the cylinders:

The feeler gauge will not pass. The gaps are smaller than .018":

End gap adjusted, the feeler gauge now passes:

The 2nd rings were adjusted in the same manner for .014" end gap.

The oil ring rails were all checked to assure there was at least .015" end gap
