Thread: Street/Trail bikes?

    Street/Trail bikes?

I'm looking to get another bike, but something I could actually ride to my destination and still have fun with..also a short commute to work so why not try to save a few bucks?? lol..anyways, wanted to get some opinions if anyone on here rides a street/trail bike..

I'd like to get an XR 400 or a 650. Anyone out there know of anything?

any law's regarding the minimum cc's of a street/trail bike?

    x2 on this...

I learned on a Kawasaki KLX300 and it did a good job on both the trail and the street.. Also KTM has some very nice motards.. Depends on how much you want to spend.

If you're going to do this, you better get a Supermoto bike.... they have the motor that will keep you happy in the woods and on the street.... the XR650 or DRZ650 is a total waste of time..... slow as shit and boring as hell..... plus, extremely heavy to be riding through the woods.....

Made a few calls today, guy almost talked me into an R6 at Millers Yamaha...I used to ride trails a lot, and wanted something I could still do that with..Some guy at the honda house seemed like a bit of a jagoff.

The DRZ400SM looks sick..the closest place is Bohn Yamaha and Suzuki on 51, anyone ever deal with them?

My uncle has a XL600, an older model that he rides just in the woods..I took it out a few times, and yes it was heavy..it had some balls though.

shultz (sp?) in Bridgeville got some nice Husqvarna street / trails and motards for sale. Those Huskys got some balls, but they're pricey.

I've heard nothing but good things about Bohn Yamaha... never dealt with them myself, but i've never heard anything bad.....

Also, if you think an XL600 has a lot of balls, be forewarned about a supermoto bike.... they're going to blow that to pieces...... that bike made around 40-42 hp.... new 450 bikes make around 60.... 50% more power + probably 100 lbs lighter = fun

sounds like a smokin' deal..the guy I bought my old CR 125 off of, he bought the bike there and all of his others..maybe ill try checking them out as well..

after i get off work tomorrow i'm going to price some insurance quotes..that's probably gonna be the worst ..for what I am thinking about putting down on the bike, they gave me a rough estimate of around 130 a month give or take a few..insurance is probably gonna do the damage, lol.

the only thing im not 100% positive on is the life of the motors on those super moto bikes..i read a few diff things about different ones saying the motors dont last near as long as a regular dual sport bike would..?

im gonna go thursday to tom clark and prob bohn and get some money figures worked out, see what i can do. Super moto looks the best for What I wanna do, but if I get a descent price on an R6 or a GSXR-600 I'd probably take it..

edit: your probably a lot older than me and have a better driving history..I dont have mad tickets or anything like that, but I'm only 19. So, we'll see what my insurance is gonna be, not pretty im sure of that.

KTM's are a bit pricey, and I've never had any experience with KTMs..I've owned/rode Honda's (3) an old Kawasaki and an old suzuki.

A friend had a BMW dualsport, it is really sweet, but its a bit on the pricey side. Personally, i would like to have the DRZ400, because it what I would really want power wise. Other friends have a CR230f honda, and a Kawi 250 which are decent machines, but 70 mph on the parkway is pretty spooky, hence why I want the 400. I usually deal with Bob Tracey Cycles in moon. They are a bit bigger than Bohn, and have more inventory for me to look at. All i have ever purchased form Bohn were parts.

I actually "glanced" at the 230F's from Honda, and I thought if I do go on a little bit of a longer journey i dont wanna be way up there in the RPMs..plus its only a 230..i'd like to have a little more fun

I'm going to head up to Tom Clark Honda tomorrow and check out the DRZ-400SM and see if I can't leave there with it be pretty awesome but I dont have ANY credit but a nice down payment, so we'll see what happens! <---Would I be wasting my time, with no credit?
