Question 98 GT aftermarket fuel pump... loud

My buddy has a 98 gt recently put a prochrager on it. Procharger gave him a in-line fuel pump to boost up the fuel. From what we have been hearing that is the only way you can up the fuel on a 98 car.???? I thought He coud still put in a regualr 255 LPH intake fuel pump but he heard other stories....

anyways his pump is extremly loud when running. Is there any way to muffle the sound or change the pump?? He has it mounted where procharger said right behind the rear end underneath the spare tire well. the hum/ whining noise is way to much to take when cruising. Its non-stop humming.

    any help would be great.

I'm pretty sure this is what is on my dads 98GT.

I had a t-rex pump on my 98. I cant remember exactly where it was mounted on my car, but it wasn't to loud. You could hear when u turned the key, but when you fired it up you could barely hear it if any over the exhaust.

brian, if you mean you can't step up to a 255 in the tank then I know what you're saying. some 98's had a different fuel pump setup than others. In order to put a 255 intank in my 98 cobra the basket had to be modified. Alot of guys are running aviator pumps in their 4-valve cars but I don't know if you can do that with a 2 valve or not. Search svtp, there was a couple threads bout this there.

Also, vortech has an inline that flows the same as the t-rex, but much less noise. They're putting them in their kits now. You could call them for pricing....

Not sure exactly what he has, but some of the pumps I've seen are just clamped around the pump body for mounting. APE makes a nice little kit that has a sleeve for the pump and insulated clamps. I "think" those pumps ony have the clamps ...

Scroll about 1/3rd the way down the page and look at 400-920

Might be worth $5.00 plus ship to try it, or copy the idea and figure a way to get the pump isolated. I am running a large external on mine and have a similar isolation scheme ... no real noise at all.

Nice site Robert. What really strokes me now is part# 128-3039. Summit sold me those for $16 each. Only $8 each there.

I know the pumps are genuine. I also know I bought a "Holley" pump a few years ago and after I opened the "Holley" box, I found a Walbro pump. That really pissed me off. Way more than you can imagine. Another summit purchase. Same pump from walbro was $120, summits price for the "Holley" was $168.

Isn't '98 one of those crazy years where they used return and returnless fuel systems?
