New toy, 2009 KLR650 Adventure Bike

I got this a couple weeks ago. Already at 500 miles!

I had to have Bob Tracey's World of Cycles order it (or dealer trade it?) in for me, but $4865 out the door!

And setting at work in the parking lot:

And with some of my new riding buddies:

Some new tires installed: Dunlop D606.

Going up to Warren PA to ride the Rocky Gap trails and camp this weekend. Fresh dual sport tires will make the mud easier to deal with!

I have 8900 miles on the KLR now, this is 6 months of riding.

Installed two D606 tires, pinched front tube installing and patched (Fly HD 21" tube) need to order another tube and swap.
Noticed inside front brake pad is damn near shot. Need to order pads.

It's my first street legal bike.

Is 8900 miles a lot, or not enough?

I'm now on the 4th set of tires. I get about 2K miles out of a set of tires.

you are kidding, right? I know I'm a fair weather rider, but I only put on about 2,500 / year.

Yea, 8900 is a good amount... but i consider it exactly that... a GOOD amount.... not too much, not too little

The first year i owned my R1, i put 4000 miles on it... i was really dissapointed... Last year and this year combined, i've put 4000 miles on it... i'm EXTREMELY dissapointed.... I wish i could ride more, but the last couple summers have been rough for me as far as riding... time has been at a premium, and i'm over the days of riding no matter what temperature... If I'm going to sweat like crazy, i have no interest in going out...

i'd say between 6K and 9K a year is a good year.... I put 14K on my TL1000R one year....

Last week (Thursday) I threw on a new set of D606 tires and Friday took a half day of vacation and rode to Allegheny National Forest to camp out with a group of guys and Saturday morning hIt the ANF "Rocky Gap" 20 mile trail loop. Then a short ride around ANF on dirt/gravel roads and beat the feet home Saturday afternoon.

That is a lot of miles in 6 months on a bike! Getting your moneys worth out of it though! I always thought a street/trail would be a lot of fun.

Just to note, last year I purchased that KLR650, put it in the garage finally in December for a 3 month rest with 16,000 miles on it in 9 months of riding.

This year I put another 2,500 on the KLR650, 7,000 miles on the V-Strom, and 1,500 miles on my KLX250.

But, in my defense, I had a forced month off after a truck pulled out in front of me while I was going about 50 and me and the bike got the opportunity to experience pavement body boarding. I sprained my ankle really good and could not shift for weeks. Otherwise, I'm sure there would have been at least another couple thousand miles on the Strom.
