Thumbs up Seafoam in my '65?

A guy at Advance Auto recommended I add a can of Seafoam to my gas tank (I was looking for a good fuel line and carb cleaner). The car runs fine and has 55,000 miles. I just want to make sure it's clean since I just got her in 11/09. Does anyone have any experience with Seafoam in the gas tank? Thanks.

I like seafoam, but would not add a full can to start. It will generally smoke a lot. I generally run 1/2 a can through my stuff once a year.

x2 on smoking a lot. Half a can to a half a tank of gas would probably be enough.

Some '65's and '66's have a drain plug in the passenger front corner of the tank. You can remove the plug and flush the tank easily, then reinstall and you're good to go. Only thing is that not all tanks have the plug, although both our '66's have them.

Would 1/2 can to a full tank still smoke for the first time?

If there is a lot of carbon build up inside on the valves, piston ect. It very well may. I've never put sea foam in and drove any of my vehicles. You could also put the sea foam thru a vacuum line that way, so it'll just do its job and be done. But if your looking to clean out fuel lines as well I don't think that's very suitable.

Either way, you'll have some smoke but once its gone she'll be all nice and cleaned up. There's also a measuring chart or oz/gas ratio on the back of the can I think?...Could use a little less gas and less sea foam if you wanna run like a 1/4 tank through it to clean it out..

How much do you use each time? Is there a lot of smoke? Thanks.

Nope......never noticed smoke. My bike had low miles but had a slight pop through the exhaust. Seafoam cleared it right up. Had a knock in the mower motor....seafoam in the oil cleared it up. The old lady was extra crabby one night...a little seafoam in her Pepsi straightened her right out!! Amazing stuff!!

I follow the dosing instructions on the can.
