Gettin Married, reception ideas and help?

Well I'm getting married march 5th, 2011. We've been planning and booking everything for about 6 months now. Everything is pretty much booked, photographer, videographer, flowers, DJ, limo, etc etc... We did book a reception about 4 months ago @ banquets unlimited in irwin/north huntington. We loved the layout, price, food options, etc etc. Guest list is @ 262 and slowly rising so finding a decently priced venue is important while still keeping it nice. We put our deposit down and reserved the date. Well we been going back and fourth with the people running it about clauses in there contract. Maybe they sucker un-knowing people in, but I read everything in detail before I sign stuff. I've even had a lawyer go over the contract and I am in the right about the changes I want made, but this place is giving us grief over everything.

Needless to say and long story short, unless something changes by monday, it's bye-bye to our deposit and time to start looking else where. Any opinions of good places for us to check out? Anyone have any connections or work anywhere that has receptions? Location I'd like to be in the 10-15 mile radius of monroeville. We already have rooms reserved @ a hotel in monroeville and a bus for everyone to take back after the reception.

I'd like to keep it under $50 a plate being our guest list is so big. I am on a strict budget as I have to many things going on right now and money is tied up everywhere.

Let me know some ideas and thanks!

Granted it was 9yrs ago, but we had our reception at the LaMont on Mt. Washington. It was a great place to have it and although at first you think it would be outrageously expensive, it wasn't out of line with the other places we had looked into. Things may have changed though.

I know you said you have a photographer, but if it falls through I HIGHLY recommend Curt's Photography in White Oak. Our pictures were incredible, he used to use our pictures in his demo books they came out so well. He was VERY professional and did and unbelievable job.

Man Dan $50 a plate is almost unheard of. Ours was over $90 per plate with a 300 guest list. 7 years ago. How about the hotel you are have the rooms reserved at? Thats always the best easiest option.

Just gotta shop around man. Banquent unltd was $42 a plate. I know I'm asking for a lot by wanting to be in that price range, but it's what I can afford. I'm trying to not go over $20k all said and done, everything included. Doing the math with my guest list, well you see why I'm on a budget lol.

We had ours there, nice view of the river. Can't remember the price, but I believe it was under $50/plate.

I'm kinda doubting they will have any openings. That's gonna be your main problem anywhere this late in the game.

You get you choice of three different vendors to cater.
    Hope it works out.

I'm getting married 7/31 and finding out if it has 'wedding' attached to it you can bet it's expensive and sometimes borders on extortion. My future sister in law got married last Halloween. Woody's did the catering and I think it was maybe $30 or so a plate for a buffet type thing. Food wasn't bad, people were cool.

We're doing it redneck style, immediate family ceremony and cookout bash at a private club. No dressing up, no cards, no gifts, no frills.

I'm no help from a personal experience..

    But...

Stratigos is off of 30 in Irwin/N Huntingdon, and is where PRP has its banquets. Nice place, would work good for a wedding.

Friends of mine just got married in December, reception was in Greensburg, almost into Latrobe on 30, had to do a search cause I was butchering the name...

Hey - congrats on the upcoming nuptuals!! For the reception, I seriously recommend trying to have it at a local country club. Usually, if you get a member to "sponsor" you ( basically just a referral ), you can have the reception at the club without being a member. If you can't find a sponsor, I think they charge you a $500 fee on top of everything else. In your case, that's not even $2 per person extra. I live in Moon, and last year we threw a 50th anniversary party for my in-laws at Montour Heights Country Club. The food was amazing. I think there were 3 choices - chicken romano, a stuffed pork chop, and something else. $27.50 a plate plus tax. Of course, the bar is extra, and there are a few ways to go there - like a flat rate per person,or by the bottle. We compared the cost to quotes from the DoubleTree Hotel and Holiday Inn, and Montour Heights was much cheaper. And I guarantee the food and environment is a LOT nicer and classier at a nice country club than at most hotel ballrooms. Only thing is some clubs can't handle more then 250 people or so - but it sure is worth a shot! Also - LOTS of nice photo-ops at a Country Club!!

Oh - and don't be jealous, but when I got married back in 1993, we had our reception at Montour Heights Country Club - and it was a whopping $16 per plate!! :D Now....the bar tab was another story...we really used to pound the drinks back then...

    Good luck!!!

I guess I am a redneck too. We had our reception at a firehall and had it catered. Buffet. Tons of good food. So many people said afterwards how much fun we had at the reception. Too many people think it has to be formal. Naw.. Just fun! Didn't even do a limo. We had monster trucks for the wedding party. I had a lifted F150 39" tires, several other groomsmen had lifted trucks also and the remaining had regular pickups. It was great time! 15 years later and still going strong!

you young PUNK!!! - hey - I graduated high school in '86 - so I'm not THAT much older than you...

We didn't have a limo either. We had white convertibles for the wedding party. My wife and I were in Dad's white ( at the time ) '57 T-Bird, and we had a white 450SL convertible, a white 1990 GT convertible, and a white LeBaron convertible. We got some amazing photos with the cars lined up and everyone sitting on the rear deck with their feet on the rear seats - all the leaves were changing and the weather was great. Perfect day in October - like 70 degrees and sunny - no sweating in the tux ( why I picked October instead of June - August ). We did luck out though - the weekend before it poured like 3 inches of rain in 2 days - and the weekend after we returned from the honeymoon in Jamaica to discover that it was like 20 degrees and there were 6 inches of SNOW on the ground. I about crapped when I stepped off the plane in my shorts and sandals...

My fiance and i are looking at the LeMonte as well.... its nowhere near as expensive as you would initially think....

We are on a very strict budget, and we're doing some looking as well... we're thinking maybe March of 2011, so i'm in your boat.... its been tough tho, spending the month of April in the hospital has put us WAY behind
