"Dan Millen and the guys at Livernois Motorsports are well known as one of the top automotive performance shops in the nation, having pulled some insanely high horsepower vehicles out the back door of their Dearborn Heights, MI shop. While much of their work revolves around the obvious Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro muscle cars, they aren’t one to shy away from any challenge. With hopped-up Aston Martin’s, Cadillac’s, and late model Chrysler’s to their credit, if it can be made fast, Livernois has done it.

This time, they’ve gotten their hands on Ford’s sharp new 2010 Ford Taurus that, while relatively underpowered compared alongside the new 412 horsepower, 5.0-liter Mustang GT, is certainly no sleeper in any sense of the word. Millen and crew put their handiwork on the 365 horsepower, twin turbocharged 3.5-liter Eco-Boost V-6 lurking unsuspiciously under the hood with their own tune and a set of H&R Sport springs.
In this video, they’ve matched up the grocery-getter with a 2011 Mustang GT that features a host of suspension upgrades, including Ford Racing lowering springs and adjustable dampers, Steeda adjustable front sway bar and adjustable pan hard bar, and other interesting little goodies...though no power upgrades.
Somewhat surprisingly, in each race from a dig, the SHO Taurus pulls anywhere from a fender to a full car length on the pony car, while the Mustang has a hard time pulling up on the SHO. That’s pretty darned impressive for a four door family car against the mighty Mustang, and even caught the Livernois crew by surprise. The Taurus is said to be vastly underrated on horsepower from the factory and this real-world matchup pretty well proves that as fact, and that a simple tune does wonders for the Ecoboost. For those that have to haul a family around, you can still have your muscle car-like performance thanks to Ford."
