    Trouble with my ricer...

    It seems no matter what I do the bottom bolt on my alternator keeps breaking. I have to tap the broken bolt and back the damn thing out every time. This is becoming a real pain in the ass, three times in less than a year is a little much. Any suggestions on what I can do to keep this from happening a forth time?

    The vehical is a 2000 Honda Accord EX Coupe w/ 3.0 V6

    Thanks in advance,

    Try a grade 8 bolt. Fastenal or your local hardware store should have one. Don't know if you went this route yet....

    Honda=metric. Grade 8=standard.

    Get a 10.9 bolt of the correct size. That should help. What happened to the original bolt? Hondas are not known for issues like this. Is anything changed from stock?

    Try a 12.9 and make sure the belt tension is correct and pulley alignment is correct. I wonder if the tensioner is worn out and you get some belt wrap that "unwinds" and snaps the bolt.

    If that doesn't fix it, sell it and buy American.

    Might want to talk to a Honda tech ... looks liek there was a TSB on the mount / bolt breaking for the 99 V6. Being it was released in 2004, the problem could have carried forward (that and i didn't find 2000 TSB's ;))

    SN040505 MAY 2004 Alternator - Broken Bracket Or Mounting Bolt

    On EDIT - here is the TSB's related to the 2000 Honda and Alternator

    http://www.aboutautomobile.com/TSB/2...ord/Alternator

    You should be able to reference those when talking to a dealer / tech to find out the "fix"

    Stock bolt broke. I tried using a 10.9 it broke.. Tensioner is fine as far as I can tell and it seems that the pulleys are lining up fine,(to my untrained eye) I'm going to call my local Honda dealer and find a 12.9 bolt and go from there. You guys have been a lot of help. Thanks big time for the info.

    maybe the bolts youre using are american made and their commiting suicide just to get out of your honda, or the coffee can exhaust makes too much power for the bolts to handle. just a thought.
