    Potential project car... need advice

I found a 95 stang v6 for $1000.00 the seller says it ran strong before winter but didnt drive it in the winter due to having a truck and she thinks its a solenoid that is the issue.

Would you get this as a potential car? I could see doing the split port swap (cheap), exhaust (cheap) and a turbo set up (not so cheap) but one of the things that appeals to me is trying to get an IRS swap. Is this an option?

Would you jump on this for only a grand?

I'd pass unless the body is in very good shape. If you look hard enough you can find 94-95 GT's for ~$2500 and you'll be way ahead of the game in terms of mods (think rear end, tranny, V8, etc). There was a 94-95GT with 94K on it at Carlisle for $2500. It needed some paint work but all-in-all it wasn't a bad car. I think it had an AODE that needed some work.

The 94-98 V6's had a whopping 145hp if memory serves me right.
The IRS is definitely an option and isn't that hard of a swap from what I understand. I think there are two holes that need to be drilled and the rest bolts to existing holes.

+1 I saw this car too, that car was a steal and a great starting point.

I would also be more in favor of picking up a GT, they can be had for nearly nothing these days if they need work, and if you're wanting a project car there's much more aftermarket for them and they have much more potential IMO (not to mention when it's all said and done, the exhaust sound will not resemble a cessna at high RPM's :D)

Look at Brian (97laserred), he had a lot of time, money, and work into his 3.8 all to be tossed in favor of a turbo 4v. I will say though, it was a damn nice car even in V6 form.

thanks for the advice both of you.

Mind you that I am north of the border and due to that and my geographic location prices up here are crazy (99-04 v6's going for 5.5k BARE MINIMUM). Its cheaper to fly to Ottawa, pick up the 00-04v6 for 3.5k, and drive it back!

Yea its a dog in stock form, but you can do the split port and it wakes it up some. From what I understand its a direct swap.

but i think i'll pass given this.... Curiously how hard is it to replace the solenoid anyway?
