i used a regular rear main seal you can find at advance/pepboys. what i did wrong was try to put it on with the engine still on the engine stand. I couldnt get the whole thing on, so it sat with one side pushed in and the other side out (since i couldnt reach it) and i think that deformed it a little bit. it sat like that for about 2 days till i finished putting the engine together and dropped it in the car. then i finished putting it in all the way.

im considering coughing up the money for the teflon one. i just want to know the advantages of it? there must be a reason why its so expensive. looks a little different than the regular ones as well.

Go over to the corral, and search rear main seal. There are about 123,xxx threads about seals. I will make your head hurt fast. Some of the people use the teflon, some use stock type, some beat the seal in with a hammer, some use use the ford tool, some use RTV around the outside, some lubricate the inside of the seal, some don't oil it, and so on.

I'm going to try the stock type seal, and cross my fingers!!!

I sprung for the teflon one... it still leaks. I saw no advatage to putting it in over a normal one. I've tried all of the tricks and the bastards still leak.
