    t-5 help

I just received my newly refurbished t-5 from a reputable guy off of the corral, everything looks good but i was looking it over and noticed that my old t-5 (borg warner) had a plug coming out of the top cover (Like screwed in) and the new t-5 doesnt even have a place in the cover to put this in...

First off, what is this little harness and is it important? (Im sure it is lol)

I think that sensor has something to do with timing in 5th gear

to be more specific it should retard the timing in 5th but someone who knows for sure will have to chime in

Hmm, everything i see of the switch im talking about is the neutral safety switch, on the top cover of the passenger side near the front of the transmission.

Some T5's have the one on top, some don't

As jaa55 said, the reverse light switch is in the side of the transmission, it has two posts sticking out of it.

As I understand it, the one on the top is some type of neutral safety, but I never use it with my stuff. Rob and I just mentioned this tonight when I picked up my spare :D (it has the plug on top)

well it cant be a neutral safety switch because the car wont start in neutral with the clutch out......and it will start in any gear as long as the clutch is depressed

it doesnt care whether its in neutral or not just whether the clutch is in..

haha ok well that helps, it is a neutral switch, for whatever reason it doesnt show it in the diagram but it lists it in the components list. top drivers side of the tranny.

if it doesnt start just jump it.......you still have the clutch safety swtich

if it does start dont jump it or it will start all the time in any gear

is it just me or was mine the only fox that doesnt start in neutral with the clutch out?

Old transmission (notice the whole in the cover where the plug goes)

New transmission (no place for the neutral safety switch)

either way you dont really need it, it can be left out.

i really dont understand why it has a neutral switch anyways....apparently mine didnt work because my car definitely would only start with the clutch in, even in neutral

Doesnt neutral safety switch mean that it will NOT start without the clutch depressed? So if i put the transmission in without the neutral safety switch... its not going to start.. will it?

So after some reading on the corral, i read that i can just let the other end of this switch (on the car) unplugged and it will not effect anything other than i wont be able to start my car in neutral without using the clutch (i dont think i could ever do this anyways)

Is this correct? (sorry for all the questions, i just dont wanna get this in just to have to tear it out AGAIN)

Mine wont start in neutral with the clutch out.

It is some kind of a neutral safety switch. If it isnt on the case dont worry about it. I didnt hook anything to mine when I put the tremec in. Starts as normal.
