yes I replaced that with a new one. I think I'll tackle this project when my knowledge of electronics grows.

Thats just bizzare. My gut says that this circuit working depends on the impedance of the bulbs matching what the circuit was designed for.

I'll pull out my DC/AC circuit book and look up a few things if I get some time and I'll let you know (i started a new job today so its hectic)
