Forgot to mention one I got about a year ago in my truck. I was doing 57 in a 35. The ticket was 250 bucks. I fought it and got all my $$ back and no points cause the cop never showed up.

Got written for 72 in a 40 on Route 65 by the West End Bridge by a City of PGH Motorcycle cop back in 2007... went to court and they reduced it to 6mph over, 2 points, small fine.

The weekend of Ford Nationals in Carlisle this year, was heading out to a GTO meet in NJ with a stop in Pottsville, PA to tour the Yuengling brewery. When I left Pittsburgh the GPS told me we were going to get there at 1:55pm, Last tour was at 1:30. I was flying and ended up chasing after a yellow New Edge GT 30 mi outside of Carlisle and got popped for 95 in a 65. Officer came back and handed me the ticket and said... "I ain't cutting you no break, slow down".
Pleaded not guilty and drove back out there to court, they dropped it to 81 in a 65, 4 points, lower fine

I've been pretty lucky lately. In the last 6 years I've only gotten pulled over twice. We won't discuss before that, lol. Once for no inspection and tint, just paid the fines.

Second time was for 60 in a 35 on Neville Island. That one was pretty crazy. Friend wanted to "go for a ride" so I said sure and we headed down the island. It was late at night with little to no traffic on the industrial portion of Neville so I opened it up a little. I guess at some point a cop got behind me and was pacing me at 60 when I opened it up again. He eventually caught up to me again when I slowed down for the bridge at the McKees Rocks end of the island. So he pulled me over on the bridge, came up to my window, and said... "DO YOU WANT TO DIE TONIGHT SON?!?!" I just had this confused look on my face and said "no". He said he knew I was going well over 100, but was only pacing me at 60 so that's what my ticket was for. He was fairly mean when he pulled me over obviously, but like stated in previous posts, everyone has a bad day and I tried to be as nice as possible. When I went to fight it I figured my only hope was that he didn't show up or they would be lenient because I hadn't had any moving violations in a long time, but when I walked in the cop said "how's 5 over sound" and I just said "sounds good to me" and walked out to pay my fine

three times. 1st-plum cop came flying out of no where, turned on his lights right as i was about to go into penn hills, he ran my plate and it came back suspended, car was impounded and he gave me a ride home. Later that night another cop ran the plate again and it was fine, claimed he never saw anything like it, i had my license for a week. I got a letter in the mail a week later saying i was found not guilty of all charges.
2nd time- Blocked a north fayette cop in an explorer after a concert as the lanes merged to one lane for construction just before robinson. let go.
3rd time-Coming home from the Butler auction in a mini cooper the heel of my boot got stuck on the floor mat and the clutch slipped the rest of the way out and chirped 1st(riced out eclipse next to me) cop two cars behind me flicked on his lights. I was given an official warning from CTPD for spinning tire on a highway under street racing violations

What is everyone's reasoning (to the judge/magistrate) for fighting a speeding ticket if you were speeding? Do you tell the magistrate you weren't speeding and the officer is lying? Do you tell the magistrate that you may have been speeding but weren't going as fast as the officer claimed?

It seems as though lots of people get out of speeding tickets, or atleast huge reductions in fines/points, and in the event I need to do the same, I'd like to know how. :)

It seems as though I'm in the minority around here for speeding tickets...I've been driving for 13 yrs and have only had 1. State Trooper was very lenient (and polite) and reduced my 76 (in a 45 at the Speers bridge on rt. 70) to 6 over and 2 points; that is how he wrote the ticket up on the spot. I contemplated just paying it and moving on as I was certainly "due", but a coworker talked me into fighting it to see if the points could be removed so my insurance wouldn't increase. I went into court and told the magistrate I was speeding but didn't think I was going as fast as the officer said, and that I couldn't afford an insurance hike with the points. The magistrate said exactly as I expected: "The officer already cut you a big break so why should I reduce it further." (Which is exactly what I would say if I were the magistrate... :) )

I've also had a ticket for a tinted license plate cover from a VERY bored Cecil officer. I fought that one (the officer actually told me to) and it was reduced to a warning.

When I got to court the officer was in the parking lot... said I must be here looking for some help and offered to reduce it to 81 in a 65.

License plate cover, license plate falling off, license plate falling off again, local SCS LEO telling me my car looks clean (lol), speeding on my way to PRP the day they had like 4 cops on rt22 (only ticket I got and it got reduced to 5 over no points), and got pulled over right after I put the x-pipe on my uncles Cobra and was driving around loud and the cop told me I was "driving like an asshole" and that "you kids think you're so cool in your fast cars, but your not" but no ticket.

Got pulled over going out to greensburg with a friend, had no idea that the speed limit had changed. Felt like an idiot. Keys out and on dash with hands on the wheel, officer let me off with a failure to obey traffic device. $109 for getting caught up in a conversation in an area I never really travel and getting sniped out of traffic. I was in the left lane though. poop happens.

It is just kind of accepted. In my multiple visits to traffic court, about 50% of the time the officer asks me before I go into court if I will plead guilty to 5 over, and I answer "absolutely" and then he usually thanks me for showing up. These guys often are just like us, and hate giving us tickets for going 20 over in the middle of nowhere in a performance car as much as we hate getting them.
My approach is always answering the judges questions honestly, don't admit guilt, but let him know if you don't come to an agreement with the officer beforehand that you have learned your lesson, and just don't want the points because you drive to work and have kids or whatever. They just want their money, not much difference in fines between 20 over and 5 over. Out of 8 times in court over speeding, 7 have been reduced, 6 to 5 over and 0 points. The only time it didn't get reduced was when I got pulled over for 96 in a 55 and the trooper reduced to 70 on site and I still fought it. He told me he wouldn't reduce it anymore (nicely!) so I pled guilty. Judge got a kick out of it.

i've been pretty fortunate....gotten pulled over 6 times. 5 of them i got warnings from the cops and only 1 time i got a ticket. i got warnings for: expired inspection in 03 gt(was due previous month), expired inspection in 87 gt(was due 2 years ago), careless driving in 03 taurus, expired registration in 03 taurus, and speeding in 87 gt.

for the ticket i was initially written up for 'street racing' in a 90 lx 5.0, which honestly was bullshit. first of all, the car is slower than a mother f'er and i wouldnt race a buick century in it, and secondly i was just driving on my friends ass in front of me going the speed limit just to piss him off. After fighting it i got it taken down to careless driving. 97laserred was there! hahahaha

    lol!!

forgot to add, pulled over in the mustang in South park on a back road around 130 pm in the fall..road has a bike/walking trail along it as well. was doing 49 in a 30. Gave me a warning surprisingly. I told him I just clearly wasn't paying attention and was going to take some pictures of my car down the road. He said my car looked fast so It meant I didnt need to go fast. LOL. Had a 3 day old bottle of Yukon jack under my seat I forgot about, thank god he didnt see that!!!(and of course, I was not drinking)
