So you want a turbo car ...

Just some of the joy that is caused by hanging a hair dryer off the side of your engine ... Exhaust leaks and cracked parts.

This whole deal started with an exhaust leak that turned into three ... okay, I can fix that. While trying to find the last leak, I hear a noise in the short block. Tear into that and find bent rods ... okay, it's expected pushing stock junk to 400 hp, and the leak likely saved me a dance in my own oil at the track at some point ...

So I get the first crack I found welded up, change shortblocks, and put in a new clutch all together ... 1st crack welded up ... Notice of course, it isnt going to crack where it's wasy to get to ...

Put it all back together, fire the whole new deal up, only to hear another FREAKING exhaust leak ... Yep #1 runner is cracked right at the flange, and oh yeah, while really looking at that, there are cracks in all 4 primaries ...

Get those welded up, fire up the car again ,and all is good Start drive tuning and break in on the clutch last night and things are going great. Finally stops raining, so we headed out on another drive to get miles on the clutch and drive tune worked out. Things are going pretty well until another leak is heard ... Start home and it's getting worse the whole way ... Get home to find this ...

So another trip tomorrow night to the welder, another turbo gasket set, and a few more hairs off my head ...

Yeah, sign me up for another turbo car

Wow that header sure is giving you problems. I was also very surprised to see you out in latrobe Saturday, car looked good btw. Turbos are always a lot of work, but its so much fun when everything finally works out, its what makes it worth it.

It's an import ;) Not a lot of choices in our little 2.3 world for nice tubular headers. Either cheap chinese stuff, or ultra high end stuff

Thanks, had it together yesterday and we went for a drive to tune ... It was still working well at that time ;) Didn't see anyone's car I recognized so we rolled through.

Yeah that sucks man. I bought my turbo notch with a cracked primary tube and thankfully the weld has done ok, but with very little miles.

Who does the welding for you?

I was with mike(94svtcobra) heading to latrobe in his cobra when his tire popped off his rim so that held us back for like 2 hours ha.

Are there alot of aftermarket options for a header on those cars?

I can't even imagine what sad state of repair results in a tire coming off a wheel ????

Suprisingly, there are a few options. There are two tubular style "import" models, this one, and a more stock location one ... There is a heavy log type mostly for stock locations, and a very high end tubular header ... in the end, they all crack, some just last longer than others. Most of the stock location one's don't allow for a good gate and the log has a serious flow issue with one hole.

I couldn't see the color of a car if I tried .. it was DARK there. I sort of ended up there by accisdent anyway, we was just driving to get miles on and sort of turned in there to head back up route 30.

That lope is Farm-all tractor style.

Thanks Troy ... I'm going to muttle with this one to see what happens with the new project I mentioned above. If that one comes together it will be about double the price of these ones, or half of Bo's. If they don't get them ready, I might jump to one of Bo's over the winter.

His tire was low on air so he was driving it to a gas station >1 mile from his house. He went to pull in and the tire popped off and screwed up his wheel.

Good luck with the car. I've been a fan of the 2.3T's for about 4 years now, although I TT 6 or 8 will more than likely be the next project.
