    Trail/Track Riding

Hey guys, I picked up a bike this year and am looking for different groups to ride with. If anyone is headed out anywhere let me know, I'd like to ride with some different people. I just picked up a KTM300 and love it. I've been out a few times now and enjoy it more and more. Thanks

Sounds good..... i have to get my carrier fixed, because some A-hole drive by and hit it, snapping it.... should just need a good weld, but i've been really busy so haven't rode since Memorial Day......

I was actually thinkin' of going in a similar direction, and seeing if i could sell my bike for a KTM 300 or 360 plus some cash... i'd like to free up some cash and maybe buy my fiance a quad..... I had a KTM 300 in the past, and its a great bike.... I love my 450, but the maintenance schedule you have to keep definitely sucks...

Was your KTM the 300 MXC that was posted for sale on craigslist? 2000 model i believe...... in Harmony??

bish had bad is the maintenance on the 450? I know alot of people who complain about the cost of keeping 4strokes running good. Im curious. I know from my 2 strokes ive had in the past it was cake as far as keeping them running good etc/

Its not BAD, its just annoying when you've had nothing but 2-strokes like i have.... Its nice being able to just mix some gas and go.....

I change the oil every other ride (assuming about a 4 hour ride) and change the tranny fluid every 3rd oil change.... The thing only holds .6 qt. of oil, so its not like you go through tons of it or anything...

As far as valve maintenance - if you don't take care of teh bike, its going to be horrendous.... if you've got fairly new valves, the thing will do A LOT of trail riding before you ever need to shim it.... When racing teh bike, you're revving the bike to the moon, so valve maintenance is a pain... but if you're racing competitively, you need to service LOTS of parts quite often... bushings, bearings, fork seals, etc etc...

For trail riding, you really don't run the bike hard enough to be pushing the valves to their limits... I mean, i RARELY have the biek in 1st gear on the trails... mostly 2nd and 3rd .... and honestly, unless its hair-pin tight, you can keep it in 3rd, and teh damn thing just tractor's out of every single turn..... and the power isn't like the 4-strokes of old... its instant... its brutal... its f-in awesome!!

Which do i liek better? I don't know.... it was hard getting used to teh engine breaking, and the handling characteristics of teh 4-stroke, but i'm used to it now and i really enjoy the bike... but i truly LOVE 2-strokes, and if the right deal comes along, i would do a trade for a 300 KTM or a 360.... or 380.... they aren't high-revving, racy engines... they are torque monsters, thus why they're dubbed 3-strokes.... I hate teh sound of 4strokes, but love the performance, so i deal with it....Also, i think the 2T's are less exhausting to ride, but then again, I don't ride near as often as i used to, so i might just be getting out of shape...
