I need some 2 stroke motorcycle help

I have a couple questions about 2 strokes. I just bought a 94 yz125 off here. I was looking for a spark arrestor for it and found out no-one makes one. Ther are only 2 silencers available for this bike. Can you just take the pipe apart and put a screen in it? Another problem is that both the pipes I can get are factory sound? Is there anyway to overcome that. I would like it a little quieter if possible. I was also thinking of buying 2 silencers and switching the pipe end to a spark arrestor type silencer. I'd rather not do this because of the cost if I can avoid it.

The second question involves flywheel weights. The bike is going to be used to putt around with my son in the woods and also as a sometimes pit bike. I can get an 8,10,or 12 ounce flywheel weight for it. What are the pros and cons of the different sizes.

    Thanks

What pipes do they make for that bike? Power Core 2 by FMF and I'm sure Pro Circuit makes a few. You can always take that silencer apart and re-pack it with packing, it only runs like 7-12 bucks pending where you get it at.
Could always try to obtain a stock silencer?
And with the putting around thing, the bikes not gonna like that. It might foul plugs often, the two strokes are meant for having the hell beaten outta em pretty much..

It has the stock silencer on it now. It's pretty loud. I'm hoping the flywheel weight will help with the putting around in the woods.

If anyone has a later model YZ125 I would appreciate pics of the whole exhaust and how is mounts.

I just asked the original owner, he says he never changed anything, its bone stock.
Its seems like the smaller the cc of a 2 stroke the louder they are. A 125 is louder than a 500, a higher pitched sound.

True..the only difference is its a deeper type of tone..my CR125 was higher, more pingy sound that my buddies Cr500.

Having owned a few yz125's before, I can tell you for sure that bike does not like to "putt around". It will be fouling plugs, those motors need to kept in the higher rpm's. I don't think that you can change the "flywheel" but I could be wrong.
Hope it works out for you..

I think "putt around" may have been a bad way to put it. My son will be riding his 80 as fast as he can and I have to keep up. The flywheel weights are supposed to make 2 strokes more woods freindly. Hopefully between that and messing with the carb I will be okay. I will carry an extra plug though. I had 2 2 stroke 250's in the past. I don't remember having to keep them reved as high as this bike.

125's are high winders. Any of then I have had or experienced, YZ125,KX125, have all been gutless at lower RPM. They are pretty much a ride it like you stole it affair. They are a completely different animal than a 250.
