    Drag radials??

Alright so i got them on and went up to prp tonight, first time with drag radials and I just couldnt get the launch right. Kept spinning bad or bogging, any suggestions on what rpms to launch at? or maybe i should be heating them up a bit more im not so sure

just gotta keep trying till you find the sweet spot. if your spinning try dropping it 500 rpm or so...if you start bogging pick it up a little. try to also keep the speed at which your dropping the clutch and how much gas you're giving it the same until you find what works.

I heat my Mickey Thompson DR's up until I see smoke in the mirror. You may need to heat yours up more. When I had a stick I launched at around 3500. I know other racers who launch at 5500 + RPM's with a stick.

Very nice. I had 255/50/16 MT ET Street radials on my GT and I couldn't even dump it at 3500 without blowing the tires off. But I guess thats before PRP started actually prepping the track on TnT nights.

I ran Nitto Xtreme DR's for goin on 3years. Do standin still burnouts for at the least 10 seconds and or till smoke appears in the side mirror too. I run mine near 17psi usually. But I have had some decent runs around 15 and 20 also.

Sorry for not postin on here guys, i recently switched jobs and ive been swamped! But yes I have the same problem mike had, i cant seem to break that 3500 rpm barrier without blowing the tires off, this past week at prp (26) I had a pretty damn good run of 13.7 launching at 3400 rpm with some wheel spin. The tires are 275/40/17 nitto 555r extreme drag radials. The car is slightly modded with 3.73 gears flowmaster 44s exhaust (no cats) short throw shifter, mac cold air w/ MAFS, and im beinging to wonder if the previous owner stroked it... the car is the loudest non-straight piped gt ive heard. But I've got no idea what this car will actually do if i could launch it at 5k+ and not break traction

Thats a relatively narrow, short Nitto---wish I could say anything other than good luck finding what works best. Take notes at the track might be helpful.

I stuck with the 17inch rims due to tire price, $100 difference on each tire average, and im pretty sure 315s are gonna rub unless i move some things under there

I've run Nitto DR's for years. I've run 245-50-16 and 315-35-17 sizes. I went 1.72 with near stock suspension on the the 245's and 1.67 on the 315's. Here's what works best for me:

-run no less than 17lbs of air
-do a 2nd gear burnout for a solid 5-8 seconds
-launch RPM is dependent on track temperature, ambient temperature, and surface prep

In a stick car, if you shock the tires they will not hook. This means no clutch dumps. You must ride the clutch out enough to get the tires planted and weight shifted to the rear, then you can apply full power and fully disengage the clutch. This is the "trick" IMO to hooking on large diameter small sidewall DR's. Wheel hop can be an issue as well with DR's. From my experience if I experience wheel hop a HARDER launch cures the issue. I'm not sure why this is but it always holds true in my car. If I launch at say 4500 and it wheel hops, I will launch at 5000 on the next run and the hop will go away. If you run an on-off clutch like a spec, you may have real problems trying to hook as they are very hard to slip on a launch.

I agree that has been what I'm trying to tell him. It has an OEM style clutch in it so it isn't an on/off switch. Just takes practice. DRs aren't forgiving like slicks.

lol thanks guys, yeah ive been experimenting and I installed a sacks clutch in it recently. I did have some wheel hop issuse you can actually hear it in the video like i said but im guessing just use a hard launch and moderate clutch slide. oh and one last thing ive been havin issues with the 2nd gear burnouts because the car loves to slide out on em and it doesnt respond very much to correction unfortunatly should I let it start to slide forward farther out of the water or will that just bog down the engine if the tires get sticky
