    Small problem

Okay so since it was a nice 55degrees out today I decided to put my flowmasters on... The stock catback came off easily, and I got the mufflers bolted into the collectors and hung them as the directions stated.. heres where the problems started.. The exhaust is "Supposed to" slide into the muffler and be attached with 2 1/2 '' u bolts.. well the axle is in the way of allowing this to happen, so i'm going to have to unbolt the collectors and take the mufflers off the hangers to get the rear section slid into place.. the other problem as Venom earlier stated to me is that the LX hangers for the tailpipes are going to be too short.. I dont want to tie wire the things up there.. but I might have to until I get it out and take it to a muffler shop where i can have new rear hangers made ( I have no welder and no means of fabricating anything .. this exhaust swap was done in my carport which has a gravel floor haha. ) on the plus side of things.. it does sound like a VERY nasty cobra now haha. I'm guessing it'll quiet down a bit once the tailpipes are in place though. Even though all of this is a minor inconvienance.. it still ticks me off.. sorry guys (and gals) i just needed to bitch a bit haha.

ah ok... that would be a long drive for you then... just try moving the tail around, back & forth... it will go in right, just takes some time.. when i had lx tails on one of old gt's, i had to take it to a muffler shop and have them weld longer support brackets(in the rear)by bumper,so the tails would be underneith the rear bumper.

Yeah that'd be a bit of a drive haha. I know a guy locally that would do it for me.. I think i'm going to drop the mufflers again and slide them in first, then re hang everything.. I'm going to tie wire the pipes up in the rear for now, and have the guy make new hangers for me when i take it in. That or grind the old hangers off the stock exhaust, and weld them to the new one ?

I've never had a problem hanging catback exhaust, well,,,After my first set that is. Hang the tailpipes first, then slide the mufflers onto the tailpipes and then bolt the mufflers to the H-pipe or X-pipe. sounds backwards but it works!

    hey man-

i never responded to your last post about the hangers. my last 93 i took the tailpipes to a local muffler shop, and they extended the hangers. on my current car i just stretched the rubber hanger things, and put a 1/4"x 1" bar in the middle. that lengthened the rubber piece a good bit and all is well.

easy fix. you should have something lying around to stick in there.

Thats funny, that is the exact opposite of how the instructions tell you to do it.. serves me right for following them haha.. I was actually going to hang the tails first, then do the mufflers, but I thought to myself "no, you better listen to what the flowmaster people say.." Damn things were probally written in singapore.. Thanks for the advice guys and thanks for the tips on the hangers venom! I'm thinking what I'm going to do is use a grinder to cut the stock hangers off hang them, get the pipes into position, tac them in place then have someone who can weld secure them for good. haha yes day, bikes are a bit easier .. well at least the exhausts are..

Well I got them hung yesterday.. actually the stock hangers worked with a little motovation from me.. The tails are a snug fit the one is actually a little too close to the bumper for me to be confident that it wont melt.. I'm going to work on it a little more to make it perfect, but at least they're mounted! The car definately sounds better now. At idle it has a low growl that puts a smile on my face haha. I cant wait to drive it!!!
