    Transmission Shop near Moon Twp?

    Hi folks

The automatic transmission in our 2001 Explorer ( 4.0L V6 ) is starting to slip a bit during the 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts. She just turned over 100k, and that's when the tranny in our last explorer (a 1993 with the 4.0 V6 ) went belly-up. So I'm preparing for the worst, meaning a full rebuild. Anyone out there know of good shops in the area that can handle the job in a timely manner? I used a local shop with our previous Explorer, and they did a nice job, but it took them about 2 weeks to get the truck back.

I've heard that Lucas makes an additive that can give tired transmissions a little extra life. Anyone use it before?

Any leads / suggestions you have would be appreciated.

My wife blames me for the Explorer getting fussy. Just last week I wet-sanded the oxidized hood and buffed the entire truck, which hadn't been waxed for a few years. She says the truck thinks I'm getting ready to sell it...

I just had my truck's trans. rebuilt by Gino's in Crafton. Two days. 12k miles / 1 year warranty. Good guy to work with.

Thanks Venom - what's the make/model/year of your truck? 4x4? Did he rebuild your tranny or drop in a completely rebuilt or new unit? Do you mind telling me what he charged? If you'd rather PM that info that'd be great. I have a call into the same shop I used before, but I still plan on getting a few estimates before dropping a bunch of $$ into a 10 year old family truckster. Thanks again!

Thanks ttk - I called and talked to them - seems like a good shop - said a lot of good things. They're definitely on the list. Thanks for the help.

    Call Mike at Gilarno's in Freedom >>> (724) 775-4040
The guy has done 2 AOD's, a TH-400, and a chrysler FWD for me over about a 15 year period and I have NEVER had a problem.Personally I would not spend my money anywhere else in the area.

The shops been there a long time and he has been their tranny guy as long as I can remember, does a ton of cop cars and ambulances.

Thanks everyone for your help. I ended up going back to Weisner Auto Repair in Coraopolis - same place we took our '93 Explorer back in 2000. His father started the shop decades ago and has since passed away. Mike ( Weisner ) did a nice job and we just picked up the Explorer yesterday. Shifts are very smooth and the Explorer has never run this well. I would highly recommend Mike's shop. Really nice guy who does good work at a fair price.
