    I don't see your point.

“There is no technological or commercial reason why nontoxic ammunition and fishing tackle with comparable effectiveness should not be substituted for their lead counterparts,” the petition says.
They don't want to get rid of ammo, they just want to change the composition. I don't see how that violates 2nd ammendment rights.

The waterfowl loads i have are made of steel shot so when it goes in the water it dosn't poison streams and ponds with lead. it does seeem kinda shady though

Saying they don't want to get rid of ammo or the 2nd ammendment is like saying they don't want to take over healthcare.

nowhere in the article does it say ammo is going to be banned, rather ammo formulated with lead is going to be banned.

big difference. Steel shot for waterfowl hunting has been around for years up here, and it hasn't caused a ban on ammo or guns.

    I just dont see it.

They, is the government? comprised of citizens that run for public office?

Therefore, one must conclude, we should be afraid of ourselves?

That we the people no longer can govern ourselves?

That compromise is beyond our ability?

That hard line right wing authoritarianism is the solution?

Sorry, allow me to rephrase to avoid ambiguity of "they"

"The authors of the article are not purporting that ammo is going to be banned, but rather that there is a desire for a change in ammo composition. I don't see how that violates 2nd ammendment rights."

    Everyone happy now? :)

So you believe this government, full of elected citizens you speak of are the ones brainstorming these ideas? You don't think that there is a group or groups of men with more power than them?

Will Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson (I want to see the American flag on Mars)make a back door move to ban lead bullets the day before the November 2 elections?

Several environmentalist groups led by the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) are petitioning the EPA to ban lead bullets and shot (as well as lead sinkers for fishing) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Although EPA is barred by statute from controlling ammunition, CBD is seeking to work farther back along the manufacturing chain and have EPA ban the use of lead in bullets and shot because non-lead alternatives are available. But here's the catch: the alternatives to lead bullets are more expensive. A ban on the sale of lead ammunition would force hunters and sport shooters to buy non-lead ammunition that is often double the cost of traditional lead ammunition. A box of deer hunting bullets in a popular caliber could be upwards of $55.

could it be that because steel ammo isn't as widely used there are fewer producers and thus its more expensive? I think as more people make it the price would come down due to market competition.

I'll have to price steel shot up here so we can do a comparison of cost in a place where lead shot has already been banned versus a place where it has not. Any particular gauge/shot size we should use for comparison?

What's the big deal? You only need one box ($55) per season.

I also support taxing ammo to build and maintain more wildlife preserves.

    I don't hunt.

That is what the hunting and fishing licenses are for. Plus ammo is already taxed, as is just about everything else you spend your money on. So hey lets just make another new tax to pay for something else.
