    Welding Titanium

Does anyone know of a shop that can weld titanium that is within reasonable distance of Pittsburgh??

bgblockelcamino (jeff) is looking into it for me, but as a backup plan, I would like to see if there is anyone else around that can do this..... The exhaust on my car is Ti, and i'm interested in having some work done to it.....

From what i'm seeing on the Corvette forum, everyone says its inexpensive and easy... however, from some research i've done, it doesn't sound so easy, so i'm not sure if the exhaust is a little easier to work with that general titanium or not.... ?

    Thanks for any help

    Yup!! :D

From what most say, its the best soudning exhaust on a corvette... and they all say its inexpensive and easy to do, but i guess that depends on whether or not you can find someone to do it!

And i agree with them, the Ti exhaust is awesome sounding... but its just not loud enough at idle/cruise for me... so if those inter-webs peeps are right, this will take care of what i want....

If your still looking, I can do it. If you have a guy that can heli-arc stainless, it's not much diffrent, here are the tricks.. You need to be really clean, dedicated burring/cutting tools cross contamination is really bad, wiped down with MEK before lighting up, DC, no AC or a high Freq, use Ceriated instead of Thoriated tungsten,,, it's sticky,, not as bad as AL6XN, but the filler will hang outside the hot part of the puddle, purge for sure or it sugars bad on the inside, and use a gas lense and a trailer.

Oh and you cant cheat on the filler,, using Ni-rod or stainless will make it brittle, you will hear it "tink" when it cools and cracks.

Thanks for the help, but i think i'm going to just trade the exhaust on a different aftermarket setup.... probably a Borla...

Corsa's are raspy as hell on a vette.... i would agree on an f-body, and don't know (or care) about on a goat, but on a vette there are multiple options that are better than the corsa.. GHL, B&B, Borla, or even keeping teh Ti's.... only thing Corsa has going for them is that they are the original company with the super-sweet slash/cut beveled chrome tips.....

I'd personally love to get a set of GHL's, but being cost-conscious, i want to buy a used exhaust... teh GHL bullets seem to be a VERY rare find used.... everyone who gets them keeps them, and 50% of those who don't have a GHL are looking for one.... My next options are teh Borla or the B&B, and since the B&B is supposed to be BRUTALLY loud with a cam/LT's/no cats, i'll stick with the tried and true Borla... will make PLENTY of noise, and still have the great tone...

i'm HALF tempted to go with teh OBX knockoff, as its a exactly copy of teh Borla exhaust, with copy-cat Corsa tips... look awesome, but there's really not enough guys in the corvette crowd that are willing to try them out... so they don't have much of a following... the LT headers made by OBX have a huge following, but i'm just too leary about getting the exhaust, as i just don't wanna regret my choice... with one of the tried-and-true names, i know i won't get garbage... and i know i'll have something with some resale value, if i decide to go with something different down the road

Bish I have the Corsa CB on mine. I still have cats though and it's not too loud at all. I love the NO DRONE on the highway. With the modded stock exhaust and the valves open the drone was ridiculous.

I have had the Corsa setup on my Silverado and my TBSS as well. Personally I would not go any other way. It's only loud when you want it to be.

The Corsa on my GTO is Raspy at cruise but there is 0 drone. It also makes children and women cry at WOT... the longtubes, no cats and big cam help that too.

    I love this exhaust.

I had an offer for a B&B on a partial trade, but i decided to pass.... most ppl are very happy with this exhaust until they start modding further.... from what most say, even just LT's combined with this exhaust is brutally loud.... combining LT's with my cam, no cats, and x-pipe worried me that the B&B would be just tooo brutally loud, like the straight pipes were.....

I have a trade setup for a set of Borla Stingers.... don't hear much bad about them, except that the B&B's are louder... lol..... so, i think i'll be happy....

Only problem i have when getting opinions is that most guys have a M6, so the areas where their car will droen will be completely different than mine with a 3600 stall....

A big reason i'm trading for the borla is that i know it has resale value.. whether its for someone looking for a louder exhaust, or someone looking to back down from a B&B or Borla XR-1 (straight pipes).... there will always be someone looking for a Borla Stinger system...

I'm not being a smart ass asking, I have no clue how big a 400 exaust is, my kids 80 goes from about 3/4'' at the head to 4'' or so on the expansion chamber.

I need to know what I'm getting into so I can tell you what diameter and amount of filler I might need, last stick of 3/32'' titanium I bought was over 12 bucks I think.

three passing 6'' schedule 10 is about 9 sticks, lotta jing on filler,,, fusing a cracked weld is a shot and a beer.

There is about a 90% chance on exaust work I can seal pass them and don't need filler, just a new stainless wire wheel to clean it up.
