Ron89 (a friend of mine on here, doesn't post much) and I set out to get his 2005 Subaru WRX STi dyno tuned at EFILogics. Here is the story:
I go to school in Williamsport, PA so we made an appt. to get the car tuned on Saturday Sept. 4. Ron came from Pittsburgh and picked me up on Friday night in Williamsport and we drove to Danbury, CT. We got to the hotel at about 1am Saturday morning, got some sleep, then headed to EFILogics.
At EFILogics, they were having some fan difficulties on the dyno. They had the repair man there in NO time at all. Thankfully he was able to repair it so we could go ahead and have the car tuned. The car is put on the dyno and after a couple adjustments and some short pulls, Chris @ EFILogics finds out that the internal wastegate is opening a slight bit which is sending the boost all over the place because it now utilizes an external wastegate. He told Ron that he needed to buy the GrimmSpeed version of the wastegate bracket. He told us to come back when we have the bracket not knowing how far we came to get this car tuned.
He asked us how far we drove and we told him we are from Pittsburgh and it is about an 8 hour drive. He was shocked to find out how far we came and he told us that we could use his tools but he can't pull his guys off the big job they were working on. With the help of Rob @ EFILogics and borrowed tools, we had modified the current wastegate block off tab to keep the wastegate shut. The car was loaded back on the dyno and everything turned out OK thankfully!
Once fixed the car made a very safe 304awhp/320awtq on the stock tiny VF39 turbo and pump gas. We didn't go crazy because it is a daily driver. At the end of the day we were very happy with the results, the car drives amazing now and the guys at EFI really helped us so that we didn't have to come back another time, and they didn't even charge for pulling the car on the dyno again or the help of the employees. I would definitely recommend them and they have great guys in a clean shop.
And for what its worth we made it from Danbury, CT to Pittsburgh, PA in 6 hours.
