This kills me when they say that bullcrap on the news.

I laughed my ass off when the Chief of the Pittsburgh police said that the guns in the recent north side shooting had beed modified to fire fully automatic and called them machine guns.

Harper called a fully automatic rifle a "machine gun".

What should he have called it ?

If it was a full auto, call it a machine gun and or assult weapon, if it is a US legal semi auto sport rifle, call it a sport rifle.

As far as I am aware, a person like you or me can not even buy the full auto parts to change out the firing group of an AR to mimic a 3 round burst or an old M16A1 full auto. Maybe some guys know how to machine or mod the existing legal parts? I've never honestly looked into it, I don't see the point of auto fire... other than supression fire.... it is pretty pointless. I'll out shoot an auto weapon out there with fast and proper placement on target with my M4 or SBR running standard and legal semi auto with an H buffer and BCM "full auto" bolt carrier. Hell, I'll shoot on the move better than I can imagine you can shoot a full auto. Full auto is for playing "look at me" unless your behind the line. If your out in the theater, you have a realistic use for the big hammer once in a while.

I know this, if I were ever being unwantedly thrust into a bad situation against an enemy of little skill and training (the average BG), I would pray he is carrying his hacked full auto so I have better odds of making the kill shot while he wrestles with his barrel climb and no abilty to stabilize sights. A good trigger puller can ring off some pretty fast semi auto fire with amazing accuracy, I've stood and watched Vickers do some amazing things that I can't ever see me personally copying.... but I'm no ghost like he was. There are some true billy bad asses out there!

The official definition of an "assault" rifle is a SELECT fire weapon capable of firing BOTH semi-automatic and fully-automatic. Yes, 3 round burst fire is considered fully-automatic.

Machine guns are usually belt fed fully-automatic weapons.

As far as converting something that is semi-automatic to fully-automatic it CAN be done. The ease of this is depending on the platform of weapon that you are dealing with. The big issue with converting somethign to fully-automatic is SAFETY. Most times when something is converted the weapon will completely empty the magazine with a single trigger pull regardless if the trigger is released halfway through the magazine. I have delt with this and it is VERY dangerous.

As far as me and you getting a fully-automatic weapon it CAN be done legally. First you have to obtain the proper FFL. Second you have to buy one and civilian legal fully-automatic weapons are NOT cheap.

The typical AK-47, SKS, Minni 14, and AR-15 that ypou can buy at ANY sporting goods store is a semiautomatic sport rifle, NOT an assault rifle.

That is a very nice collection you have there by the way.

You wouldnt happen to have an extra Glock 20 or 21 that you would be willing to part with for a reasonable price? I saw something in a magazine that intriged me and need one of those as a starting platform.

Also, i just found out that Glcok discontinued the OD green frames :(

Seriously John that is one of the nicest collections I've seen just from what you've posted here....we REALLY have to get to the range some time before winter!

Is that a Comp M4 on your home defense rig? I've been looking at the Comp M4s and would love any feedback.

Shoot me a PM and we will hit the range, weekends are best for me.

Yes it is a Aimpoint M4 and it is an awesome sight, battery life is like 8 years of constant run time on one AA. I have it as a nightstand gun and just leave the aimpoint on. I also have a Surefire 6P with a 256 lumens LED conversion lamp, great setup for the house.

    Cool bud I definitely will.

Thanks for the info on the M4, have the Aimpoint 3X mag on a tall Larue pivot mount already because I found a deal I couldn't pass up.
