I have never seen one of those before. Are there any other wires that hook to it other than those 3? There is no way it can be an amplifier with only 3 wires.

The connector on it looks like the one used for a power mirror.

VERY strange! Any amplifier at least, needs a Power Wire, a Ground Wire, a Input and a Output. That's a MINIMUM of 4 wires. 5 wires would be more typical, with the 5th wire being a remote turn on wire from the radio itself.
